The Ranweli Spice Garden is a little off the beaten path and is a real garden, no a tourist trap. Our guide showed the two of us around discussing each of the various types of trees, their spices and uses. He was very informative, extremely pleasant and appreciated the fact we already knew quite a bit about some of the... More

We were very pleased with to see the variety of plants at the the Ranweli spice garden, and our guide was very informative and entertaining in his tour. I would happily recommend this to anyone looking to see traditional Sri Lankan spices growing in their natural surroundings. Also the tour is completely FREE!

Joshua's tour couldn't have been more enjoyable and was the highlight of our time in Kandy. We learnt so much from him in the hour and a half we were with him as he explained all the different types of spices and fruits around the beautiful garden - pepper, star fruit, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, turmeric, citronella, cacao etc. He was... We found this spice garden at Tripadvisor and were very satisfied. There is no entrance fee and the visit takes apx. 1 hour. The guide was very nice and funny, really knowledgable. Answered all our questions. There is a small shop, where you can buy their products (spices, cosmetics, etc.) We recommend.

First of all, the tour is FREE. The price listed on TripAdvisor is just an advertisement for a private company that offers tours in Kandy. When I arrived, there was no on there (keep in mind that this was 9:30 am on a Sunday morning, so that's understandable). After calling, the guide named Ashanka came quickly from church so I... We visited the New Ranweli Spice Garden yesterday and loved it! The guys that show you around the garden are very knowledgable and we found it all really interesting. It is a small place just like their back garden but this was preferable to us. There is no pressure to buy the products but to be honest with the enthusiasm... More

Even though there is no signage (that I could see) it's not difficult to find this little gem. You'll see nutmeg, cinnamon and clove trees, vanilla and pepper vines and aloe Vera plants. Lots of packaged spices and products to purchase at very reasonable prices. Our guide was really knowledgeable and a very pleasant fellow.

I'm not the kind of person who would go to a place and complain about small things but thought I would share this story. We all had originally planned to visit new ranweli spice garden kandy as part of our kandy tour. But my driver a nice guy ( at least we thought so ) recommended another spice garden that... More

It's a small and lovely spice garden and the guide there was very informative. Entrance is free and there is a small shop selling spices and stuff. A good place to drop by especially if you're planning to visit the nearby botanic garden.
