About
The Kandy Lake Club Cultural Dance Show is a stimulating Sri Lankan Arts, Dance & Cultural Heritage Show that is a must see for any visitor who visits the historic city of Kandy. The Kandy Lake Club Dance started in 1982 with the view of having a cultural dance performance bringing together all Sri Lankan dance types to one platform. It is the first Cultural Dance Show of its kind to be established in Sri Lanka. It has since become a tourist attraction for many people visiting the country and keen on a glimpse of its rich cultural heritage. Hence it has been performing continuously for the last 35 years. Dance techniques unique to areas of the island are usually passed on from generation to generation. These Dances are performed at local ceremonies and rituals using drums and costumes that are unique to each area. Among the attractions are the Dances depicting the majestic walk of the elephant, colourful performance of the peacock and the mystical movements of the cobra.

Amazing dancers in Kandy, Sri Lanka
We went to this show while holidaying in Sri Lanka and were really impressed with the dancers . Not only their dance and acrobatic ability but also their obvious enjoyment of what they were doing. The show was exciting and professionally executed ending with several dancers walking over hot coals. This was a real highlight of our holiday.

    Amazing
So good! Great to see all different dances from around Sri Lanka! The dancers are all amazing, really professional and entertaining. You can get beer and crisp during the shoe and the drumming is great. Well worth it! Just a quick and cheap tuk tuk ride from the center

    Great cultural dance show
Brilliant show. Was not expecting so many different acts. Loved the female dancers outfits in blue, green and pink. The fure eaters and fire walkers were amazing. Highly recommend this show.

    Entertaining and informative cultural show
Entertaining and informative, the Kandy Lake Cultural Dance Show puts on an informative and engaging one-hour dance session. Upon arrival, you can expect to find a program breaking down the one-hour program in multiple languages. The theatre is clean and has an airy amphitheater style. We attended the session with two children, aged 8 and 5 and both found the show very entertaining. The costumes for each dance are stunning and different sections of the program keep everyone engaged. The peacock and fire-eating dances were a hit for the children. You are also able to purchase beverages and small snacks before the start of the program. The bathrooms on site are spotless. Highly recommend it if you are in Kandy.

    Excellent performance
It was an excellent show. Hats off to the drumming team who played endlessly throughout the show. The male and female performers were all very skilled. Costumes were very beautiful. The acrobatics team and the firewalkers stole the show. Perfect time management also. Overall it was very well put-together and executed.

    A Great Experience!
A well-produced and executed performance that gave us insights into old Kandy culture. The music and drumming were captivating, and the dancing seemed flawless. A simple written program adequately explained the meaning and origins of each of the approximately 12 dances. A surprise performance culminated the evening. Bravo to this group that helps preserve the old Sri Lankan traditions!

    Great entertainment
Really enjoyable hour of varied and on occasions, frenzied dancing with elaborate costumes. Great to be provided with a sheet explaining the history and significance of each dance. Walking on coals provided a great finale.

Worthwhile insight into Sri Lankan culture
Beautiful costumes and interesting dances and cultural sharing. About one hour long and well worth seeing. My only caveat was the final act which involved kerosene and flames and really stunk up the auditorium and I feel maybe detracted from the whole show. Others will likely disagree and children will love the final act. The best seats at the front are reserved by large tour groups. There is a simple program for free in many languages. I would go again.

Energetic dance moves, beautiful costumes, Excellent drumming!
Entrance fee is 2000 LKR per person. Came early but noted chairs with best view options had reservation cards on them. I I ended seating at the second level, was able to move to the front seat when the person reserved it for did not show up. The show started around 5:10 pm, one presentation after the other. There were graceful hand movements, tumblings, singing, acrobatic balancing of plates, eating fire, walking on burning coals, etc. The dances were accompanied by music made by the drummers and trumphet. The show ended in an hour, highly recommended to watch this show.

We were walking around Kandy lake when an old toothless gentleman named ‘Bandura’ started speaking to us about one of the monitor lizards. We engaged in conversation with him and he told us that he had lived in London etc. We were charmed by him. He told us that today was a ‘special festival’ that’s happening and that there are monks from ‘all over the world’ coming to Kandy for today. He told us to go to the dancing and then to see the special festival at three Sacred Tooth. He told us he was a fire breather and that he would be performing in the show later. We were quite clear that we didn’t want to buy anything but he started walking with us anyway. He took us to the Red Cross Hall and he and his friend convinced us to buy a ticket. Luckily we only bought one as I have to say, the show was pretty below average. The fire walking and dancing at the end was okay however it felt a little dangerous as they do it inside the building. Our mate Bandura was nowhere to be seen. We later asked the staff at our hotel who confirmed that there was no ‘special festival’ happening today and that local touts will say that to sell things to you. More fool us for believing him! It was only 2000LKR - but lesson learnt. Have your wits about you and Google if it really is a special festival or not

The show was amazing. This was such a great experience and we were very pleased to get to watch the show. The dancers were incredible and so were the costumes. The programme we were given was extremely helpful to follow the different dances and provide information on why they perform each dance. The length of the show was just right. Would highly recommend.

Don't book on their website. The payment went through and didn't get any confirmation I wrote them on whatsapp email and Facebook about this, then then made me pay again on arrival after even showing them it was deducted from my account. Maybe nice if you pay once, but 40 euro for 2 people for 1 hour of show is absurd. They also kept bothering me about this during the break in the itinerary making me have to go through bank statements whilst I was supposed to enjoy the show. Completely ruined the experience for me, that we paid twice for.

In all honesty, 30 minutes would have been adeqaute and by the time the hour was up, more that 50% had abandoned ship. It was very noisy at times - some children found it uncomfortable.
The costumes were good and some of ther dancing was very good, some repetitive.

I had a strange experience at the end. My husband went to the loo and I was waiting for him by the stage. About a dozen dancers started to shout at me to come up and have photos taken. I said no as I had already taken enough and to be honest it was so hot I just wanted to get out. They were relentless and one of them came up ad dragged me up onto the dtage by my arm. One of the dancers took my camera out my hand - a pet hate as it is very costly. So, photos were taken and I was about to step off the stage when the dancers surrounded me holding out their hands asking for money. I fel very intimidated and it really spoiled what was an average experience. There is an entrance fee and on the way out we were asked to put money into a donations box.

We feel sorry to hear that you had such an unpleasant experience in Sri Lanka. Meanwhile we wish to inform that you have mistaken some other cultural show to ours. Because our cultural show is well monitored throughout by our staff to ensure the quality and comfort of our guests. And we do not have any donation box in our premises. Hope you have a wonderful trip.

Beautiful costumes, and nice to listen and watch for a little while, but an hour was a bit too long. The dancers didn’t seem too motivated, and the dance wasn’t always professionally coordinated. It was ok, but not brilliant.

I didn't think I would actually like this, but the show was really good, the costumes were amazing, they did several different dance scenes in different costumes accompanied by traditional music

The dance was beautiful, but when going anywhere in Kandy leave PLENTY of travel time, especially when used to driving in other countries. As a North American, the road conditions were quite different and traffic was heavy with lots of weaving cars.
