The Golden Temple has been built by cutting into the rock face at the side of a hill. There is a nice walk to get up to the temple, it is not too strenuous and offers nice views of the surrounding areas. It is quite...More

Impressive to see because it is manmade; you climb 100-150 steps to come to the caves; nice view on Sigiriya from there. No real need to take a guide. I loved the last Kandy king statue Spend around one hour.

A bit of a climb to get there but not too much of a problem. Lots of cheeky monkeys to see en route! The caves were free when we went and we understand this is a recent change. It's hot on the walk up once...More

Entrance is now free. Lots of stairs to get up (about 325) but definitely worth it when you get there. Five caves in total with loads of Buddhas, beautiful painted ceilings and spectacular views. The huge golden Buddha on the bottom level is pretty spectacular...More

have seen them all. Well I know that's my opinion, so for my family and I it was not that great an experience, since there was nothing special about this place.

They have done a good job with the statues in the cave. Once you climb the stairs, there are a few caves to explore all next to each other. It's nice going from cave to cave and seeing all the detail painted over the cave...More

I think you can pay in US$ as well. Some attractions are quite expensive, for example Sigiriya Lion Rock is $35. You can also climb Pidurangala Rock for 200 LKR each and get a beautiful view that is the same as the view from... More

Damian, We were on a guided tour. So entrance to the golden temple was covered as part of the package. What I can tell you is there is a huge difference between the tourist rate and the Sri Lankan rate. I would go so far... More

Well, this is a place of religious worship of great significance and hence visitors are expected to dress appropriately. There are no cafes on-site due to the same reason.
