This mosque is located two kilometres beyond the Chefchaouen Medina. As you exit the Medina from Bab Al Ansar you see it perched on a hill. You have to hike up to this mosque. As it stands in ruins, the Non Muslims can enter it. This white coloured mosque was constructed by the Spanish at the start of the 20th century. As it had no connection to any holy men and was built far from the main town, it failed to attract the local worshippers. It fell into severe disrepair. It was restored later but still remains dysfunctional. …

Around 4:40 pm we made our way toward the Spanish Mosque to watch the sunset. There were so many people at the top and the views were good about half-way up the hill, that we decided not to walk all the way to the top. The sunset was lovely. Great photo opportunities regardless.

The mosque is the best place to be to benefit from the view and take pictures of the sunset on the Medina. Beware of the locals that offer you a visit of the weed plantations unless that's what you are looking for!
