Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Jolotundo is a fascinating piece of architecture dating from thedays of the Hindu empire in Java. But it's much more. Its site, shaded by huge trees and tucked under the mountain, is lovely, and it's still a living sacred site where some pray and meditate, while others simply jump in to cool down on a hot day.

I left my bag with the friendly ticket lady after hiking half way up Penanggungan, and took a cooling bath in the ladies' compartment (clearly marked). The water is drinkable, too. Four separate spouts gush overhead, and tiny red crabs watch from thejoints in theblack masonry. Huge koi swim in the main basin; you can watch them for hours.

Candi Belahan, on the other side of the mountain (minibus from Pandaan then a 30,000 ojek ride) has better sculpture but not the gentle ambience of Jolotundo.

55km from Surabaya or just 1km from Seloliman village, this is one of a series of Hindu Temples on a trail up Gunung Penanggungan. The eco lodge PPLH is just ten minutes walk away, if you stay here you will get the choice to visit. This temple was built in 997 AD for a Balinese King Udayara when he married a Javan princess. Entry is 3500rp. Water constantly gushes out the hillside to fill the stone pools below. You can swim here if you really wish to, it is divided into male and female swimming areas. A small pavilion explains the history behind the site and tells you about the trail to the other temples further up the mountain.
