Best viewed from the peak at dawn
Dec. 2019
Best views are at sunrise, from the peak. To reach the top before the sun, we hiked through the night. To gaze out across the peaks and valleys with the sun's first rays made all that effort worthwhile. During our descent, we made it a point to peek into the still smoldering heart of this volcano.

Nov. 2020 • Friends
It was my first. People might say it is the easiest one, but still i find it hard, maybe bwcaus it was my first time to hike on a mountain. Almost gave up but finnaly we can make it. And it is all worrh it for the sunrise view. Astonishing!! When u reach the peak, be careful with your belonging because there are so many monkeys and dogs. Be kind by bringing them food before you go up, they are so skinny

Amazing view

Amazing view. Awesome place to see volcano and enjoy local food. Choose sunny day (if possible) to get great clear view of the volcano and the valley.

Beautiful and serene.
Nov. 2019
This was the fourth and final stop on our private day trip with Bali Res Centre.

Mount Batur is an active volcano, with its first documented eruption occurring in 1804. It has been frequently active since then, most recently in 2000. My brother and I were slightly nervous at the precarious drive up to the viewing area, but this quickly subsided when we saw the view. We were amazed at the beauty and serenity and very grateful for the inactivity

Beatiful place
Sep. 2020 • Couples
It's really recommended place to visit up north about 40 minutes from Ubud. We manage to visit the hot spring down near the lake which was really worth it. Would love to visit again and do mount batur sunrise trekking.

Highlight of Ubud Tour
Oct. 2019
Highlights of Ubud Tour. Although we didn't do a trek up to the top, we still enjoyed the beautiful view of Mount Batur and Kintamani lake on a bright sunny day. Also enjoyed some local fruits like passionfruit, mangosteen from local shops. Not to be missed attraction on Ubud tour

Sunrise Hike with Discova
Nov. 2019
Although having arranged and organised our Mount Batur Sunrise hike with Discova, the 3am pick up still found us groggy and slightly under-prepared. Nevertheless, on the 2 hour drive from Ubud our Discova guide talked us through what to expect from the climb. Upon arriving at the start of the hike we met our local guide and were offered head torches and extra layers, and began the two hour hike to the summit.

The climb itself is not over strenuous (I swear I saw one girl do it in flip flops); our guide gave us the opportunity for multiple breaks and having come prepared with hiking boots the terrain wasn't overly difficult. In the last 45 minutes a lot of the climb is on a sandy layer, which can definitely take it out of you!

On arriving at the summit with good time until sunrise, we settled in at a suitable spot as our guide brought over a snack of eggs and bread - there is the option to get hot chocolates but these need to be paid for and as we'd brought no cash, we passed. Although the inevitable clouds did roll in as the sun was coming up, the majesty of the setting was definitely not lost. We spend a good hour at the summit before wandering back to the base and our Discova rep, ready for the drive back and a big breakfast to celebrate the hike completion.

Honestly, the factor that brought this review down was the amount of idiotic tourists that were either tormenting the monkeys (although it was incredibly amusing seeing hungover tourists lose their food, and often much more, to those more opportunistic monkeys), flying drones over everyone or just generally not being respectful of those around them. Thankfully, they were in the minority.

Awesome Sunrise!
Dec. 2019
Climbed the mountain on Christmas Day. It was an eventful, thrilling and tiring trek, yet very rewarding.
Woke up in the wee hours ard 2am to prepare. Started trekking ard 4-5+am. It was pitched dark. Its good to bring along torchlight or headlight. The whole trek took about 2-3hrs. The sunrise was beautiful. Breakfast is provided too. It was a good morning exercise. Going down was not bad too. Option of going down by motorcycle (require a fee) or walking.

Stayed in the local area
Aug. 2019
Climbing Mount Batur was not on our itinerary, despite a sunrise hike being the most popular thing to do in the area. I'd read up before our trip and the active volcano seemed reasonably challenging to hike and there was always the problem of us not really having the correct footwear or clothing. We decided to enjoy the view from our pool instead, whilst staying for a few days in the local area.

Batur sunrise hiking
Jun. 2019
I joined a sunrise trekking tour last year,it was organized by Batur Volcano guesthouse where i stayed in June.it is one on one guided tour, the price is reasonable, the tour start at very early morning,my guide Yoki came to my room and knocked the door to wake me up,i was tired, but after shower,my body full of energy.i had some simple snacks and followed him to the mountain.the guesthouse location very close to Batur.Yoki very patience and helpful,he always asked if i am ok,sometimes he helped me to go up.there are two options to the peak of Batur,i chose the less harder part,it took more longer time.another option is harder, not easier to climb up,but take less time.after few hours,i make it,but exhausted.i rest there for a while,Yoki cook breakfast for me.unfortunetely, the weather not good, also misty, cant see the surise.so sad.after that we went down.on the wa,i took some ohotos,Yoki helped me a lot, after the tour,i tipped him.the tour has three routes.i chose the second one, which is medium route.but the weather not good,so i gave up.i just followed the same route to back to my guesthouse(it is the first route actually, but i didnt ask for refund, cuz it was me want to give up,too dangerous i think).so if you want to see the sunrise, better check the right season, heard that it is July or August.i think i will try again next time though it is quite challenging for me.
