This is not the water temple you are looking for. This one is commonly mistaken for the other with a similar name in Bratan.
The local community seems fine with the tactics of promoting this incorrectly. The ticket taker was extremely rude and the locals are mostly touts. The grounds of the temple are in horrible shape.
It’s really sad to see and to experience.

It is a long drive from Seminyak. On the way to this there are nice view from top of the mountain. This lake is truly heaven on earth, the panoramic view, the lake, the temple, the tourist attractions are perfect, being incredibly inspiration and unforgettably memories. I would effeminately recommend a visit to this.

Total scam by older locals!
There is no ticket selling point.
There is no written rules. Completely nothing. This older locals will chase and yell at you like there is no tomorrow, telling that you showing disrespect to their religion. Its all because you do not want to rent sarong from them and looking for the official place to rent inside the temple.
Go to Kintamani and enjoy the view from coffee shops instead!

We paid a entry fee at the park of 25,000 IDR just to keeping driving inside the park. Not an issue for us. As you drive around the bend, you will see nice views of two Mountains. So we decided to stop and get a couple photos before we proceeded to the temple. Beware that if you look Caucasian, your going to be mobbed aggressively by people trying to sell you the obligatory Bali Shirt, bracelets, postcards etc. You can politely say no 5 times but they will continue to hassle you. We proceeded to the temple. Once we got there, we were then told we must pay for a tour guide. 25,000 IDR per person. Once you pay that fee you they give you a visitor lanyard and you walk into a building. Upon entering, they starting fitting you with a Sarong which you can't rent. You must purchase it. Me and my wife had to pay 250,000 IDR each. You then get a brief tour of the temples. I took some pictures. The guide basically took us around and did not explain much. The guide walked us behind to a view of the lake and mountains. View was nice but then you have a man there pressuring you to buy his paintings. Again, saying no thanks does not do the trick. Your tour guide just stands back as the guy keeps trying to get you to buy his paintings. We ended up buying two paintings just so we could leave. That cost us 100,000 IDR each. So then we started to leave. As we came to the front of the street, we told the tour guide thanks and began to walk to the car. She said we must wait so they can remove our sarongs and put it in bag for us. At that point the street hagglers came all at once. A lady asked me to buy some bracelets. I told her no thanks 3 times. Another person tried to sell me postcards. As I was telling that person no, the other lady slipped on a bracelet to my wrist and began tying it. I told her again no thanks, I don't want this. She tied it so tight, I could not even get it off my wrist. My wife directly told the lady to remove it we don't want the bracelet. She then asked for 200,000 IDR for it. At this point I just want to leave quickly. I paid her the money. We then started to walk to our car. We then had two ladies grabbing me and pulling my arm to buy postcards and more bracelets. I told them no at least 5 times. Me and my wife had to start running to get away. They stopped chasing us after 50 meters or so. As a side note, I have traveled to many parts of Asia so I understand about tourist traps. However, going to a religious site as this one should be a pleasant experience where you can learn and embrace other cultures and traditions. Unfortunately, you wished you never came here in the first place. Overall, we spent 1,000,000 IDR in less than an hour. Waste of time!!!

My first Tripadvisor review goes to the Ulun Danu Batur Temple, a site that was prepackaged with a day trip from our guest house in Ubud. I regret not reading up on the site before agreeing to head here with our driver. Had I known how terrible the experience would have been, I would have settled for simply turning back home.
Mind you that I am fully aware of when something fishy comes up especially as a tourist. The problem with this temple are the dishonest touts outside trying to make some quick bucks for some absolutely ridiculous demands.
The moment your driver drops you off, you don't get a chance to breathe before people start selling you postcards of a destination you hadn't seen yet. Touts lead you into an assembly hall of sorts to pay the Rp35,000 entry fee which I'm STILL not entirely convinced wasn't a complete sham. The temple is across the street yet you are paying entry in a building across.
The next part is where it really got to me-this lady tells us we need to wear these head and waist bands to enter the temple. Mind you we were both wearing sarongs that we had purchased way before coming here, yet it wasn't enough. I've read here that they try to get you to pay for SOMETHING additional and it shows. I knew right off the back that this was a scam and my face showed. I was NOT happy with how this lady was forcing us to wear these garbs and was insistent despite me telling her "no."
Finally we enter the temple and this same lady proceeds to follow us, clearly trying to make a tip as a forced tour guide. I don't mind a friendly person walking through with us but she completely ruined my experience at the temple. She would treat my friend better (who knew exactly what was going on but would play along) and make comments towards him about how rude I was being. Listen, I did not ask for to follow us.
The temple itself while beautiful, was mostly undecorated. It was hard to really admire the beauty when this lady continued to follow us and take us all around the complex like she was showing us her home. Finally we approach a view point (which is free btw...) and she leads us to a gentlemen claiming to sell art he had made from the lava residue. Clearly these were all mass produced despite how much he claims his family are artists. He informed us one piece was Rp1000 but actually meant Rp100,000. When we told him we weren't interested, he pestered us into haggling mode. We honestly did not want any and it took an awkward journey down towards the main road for him to drop as low as Rp20,000 without us even trying. When we didn't buy, he muttered in Balinese at us. Okay then.
Once we ended our mandatory tour, the lady had the audacity to demand Rp50,000 for us wearing these garbs. I politely refused to pay her and walked away. Sure, maybe it should have been a tip, but I am someone that believes that if you're trying to scam me, you do not deserve any of my money. Absolutely terrible experience and clearly the worst temple I've visited here in Bali. Avoid if you can to get away from these touts.

First of all, I thought there is only 1 Pura Ulun Danu. But there are2. The one on the lake is Pura Ulun Danu Bratan in Bedugul, not Pura Ulun Danu Batur in Kintamani. But because on Wikipedia written this is the 2nd most important temple in Bali we still decided to go.
We park across the temple and we have to pay entrance tickets Rp. 35.000/ person. Then they lead us to sarong room. They force us to rent sarong. I told them I have my own sarong and my husband wear a trousers. They still insist us to pay for something like scarf to put on your waist. I said NO. We went to most of the temple in Bali and they rent it for free. We go back to the ticket counter and told the guy we don't want to pay for sarong. I said to him I want my money back. I told him "this is a scam. You should write down on the entrance about things i have to pay!". But finally he let us in. The lady who forced us to rent sarong started to be racist by saying something like "..she's from Java". For me it feels like because I'm not bule I don't have money and don't want to pay.
Never pay something like this even if you are the richest person on earth. It's robbery.
Then finally when we enter the temple, there is nothing much to see. At least I expected something big like Uluwatu or Tanah Lot for the 2nd most important temple in Bali. Maybe it's also because of the scams at the entrance that ruined my mood. Over all, I don't recommend this temple.

Firstly you will need to pay 35k to buy the ticket per person to get in and unlike other temples, there will be ladies who will insist that you pay 50k to borrow a sarong. Real tourist trap. The inside of the temple is similar to others and there is no view. Probably the worst part of my trip and I would recommend you stay away.

I went to this temple because they said it's the second biggest pura in Bali. The Entrance fee was 35.000 per person - which is quite expensive compared to other sites which usually cost sbout 15.000.
We went to the toilet first before we go which is very dirty and smelly.
Then we were directed to go into a hall, and there's a display of sarongs. The lady said we needed to wear a sarong (although my wife's wearing long pants). She said we have to pick and buy. I asked if we can just rent instead. I remember some pura rent the sarongs for around 10-20k or even for free. She said the rent fee was 50.000 each.
As we couldn't back off bcs we have bought the tickets.. we got no choice but to rent and ended up paying rp 170.000 in total. Really really a rip off.
For your information i'm indonesian and still got charged that high. Never recomend this place to anyone. The guide didn't tell the any interesting stories... we found out more about the temple from Google. And the pura itself was not that interesting. Stayed there just for less than 15 mins.

This is a temple that I wanted to visit. Did not get a chance to visit the last time when I was in Kintamani. So I've made a point to come to this temple just to cross it off.
First, Kintamani is a scam. The fact the "police" asks you to pay 20K per person to enter the area is pretty much the statement from the way how the local regency behaves.
Second, the 35K is a rip-off and albeit it is a nice temple, but it is not 35k worth of entrance fee. This is no Tanah Lot or Uluwatu.
Third, the Sarong Lady Nazi is just the worst. I was wearing the sarong that my driver provided for me and the Sarong Lady Nazi insist that I need to have a head gear. As soon as she put it on my head and asked for 100K, I took it off immediately and said no thank you. Relentless, she followed me to the restroom behind the ticket office and waited for me to come out and still pestering me about the sash/head gear and now the new price is 35K. I did not budge and sensing that I was not going to give me any money, she just yelled and cursed at me and walked off.
Honestly, this is a place that you can take a look at the photos from here on Trip Advisor and just save yourself unnecessary hassles and bad mood. I mean the view of Batur is great, but the temple itself is nothing to write home about.
