Description:

Located in Ninh Binh province 100 km southeast of Hanoi, Hoa Lu and Tam Coc...

Located in Ninh Binh province 100 km southeast of Hanoi, Hoa Lu and Tam Coc are two of the most picturesque spots in all of the north. For 41 years, from 968 to 1009 CE, Hoa Lu was the ancient capital of Vietnam. Nearby Tam Coc is often referred to as “Ha Long among the rice paddies.” Visitors are conveyed by rowboat along the peaceful Tam Coc stream past green fields and the feet of mountains into the mouths of caves, where they encounter new surprises, like stalactites and stalagmites that shimmer like gemstones just inches from the water.

Tam Coc is not much more than a few streets with some tourist restaurants and shops. It caters to the tourists who want to enjoy the sites in the area. Its a nice little place with friendly people. We took the Tam Coc boat ride which was very pretty and magical. We went at 7.15 on a misty, rainy morning... More

I stayed in Ninh Binh which has nothing going for it, really, despite being told by the proprietor of the hotel in Hanoi to stay here. I wish that I had listened to him.

Stunning countryside with little traffic for walking and cycling. Lots of attractions to keep you busy. It can be wet but still warm.

Unfortunately it was raining, but the boat ride was still worth the money. We were lucky enough to have the most smiling lady to row our boat. Beware of the hawkers at the turning point, they try to make you buy drinks and snacks for the rower. Better give a tip if you are satisfied. Impressing rowing job done mainly... More

We visited in March 2017. Place is beautiful, you take a little boat with a boat driver who takes you along the river for 4t minutes and 45 minutes back. We went early so we beat traffic ( other boats with tourists ). Scenery is beautiful and worth seeing. You don't stop anywhere on this trip but you take in... More

Tourist trap town with hassle on most corners. More scenic rides less than 10km away if interested in a river tour.

The boat trip is highlight of the tour, you will fall in love with the scenery from sides of the rivers. The landscape looks similar as Ha Long Bay with hundred mountains cover around the river. The caves are beautiful too but compare to Caves in Quang Binh or Ha Long Bay are less colorful. What i was really unhappy... More
