Koh Adang is part of the national park of Tarutao. There are beautiful and quiet beaches with good snorkeling. You can also walk to the view point (50 minutes) where you can see a beautiful view on Koh Lipe. it’s a quite steep path so go there with shoes ( no flip flop)
You can go there from Koh Lipe by taxi boat ( 10 minutes, 100 baht) just for a day or even sleep there in The camp site or in the bungalows managed by the rangers. There’s nothing on the island ( no bar, no shops) except it’s natural and wild beauty. It’s a wonderful and quiet place. i strongly recommend to go there if you are planning to stay in Koh Lipe.

Ko Adang is a large island just to the north of Ko Lipe. Is is available by boat from Sunrise beach. There are two resorts managed by the national park on the south coast and a few small beaches along the mainly rocky coast. From the National park office on the south west corner there is a trail that leads to a series of three viewpoints from cliffs on the slopes of Ko Adang which give a fantastic view across to Ko Lipe. The trail is steep but takes 45-60 minutes each way.

I read somewhere online that someone had recommended catching the sunset and having a picnic from the Viewpoint on Koh Adang. So we did, and the views were stunning, however...

1. You cannot hire a Kayak there at that time in the evening as the hirers ask for you to return them by 6pm.

2. You're only way to the island is Longtail Boat Taxi. We got charged 400BHT and they tried to only give us 1 hour to do the trek up, watch the sunset and then come back down.

3. The trek is challenging, so wear good shoes! It takes about 30-40minutes to get up.

4. After sunset the light drops very, very quickly. Within minutes we were trekking in the pitch black and the trail is hard to follow in the dark, so we ended up lost a few times. Take a head torch.

5. It's incredibly hot, so take plenty of water and food so you have enough incase it gets so dark that you can't see the route back down and you're not stuck without the essentials.

It was a spectacular view, but we did have some hairy moments on our way back down so just be prepared if you want to do it!

Located opposit Ko Lipe where you could do Kayak or Canoe boat rental. Me and my friend had do kayaking from Sunrise beach to there (Adang) took about 30 mins to crossed the narrow water way;

Adang itself is peaceful; calm; tranquill ; there a tent camping rental for tourist ; No food or civilization facilities on island. We landed with long hour chill out on beach with raerly no one around.

On island itself had a view point called" Cha-do cliff" where took about 40 mins climbing;
Way up a bit steep and slippery though they provided a rope to hang on; A view at top is worth the climb could see all whole small Lipe island view.

As with the other reviews, this is a national marine park and almost completely untouched by people apart from the small area where you can hire bungalows.
The beach is truly stunning with perfect white sand and beautiful crystal clear water and we spent a long time bobbing about and saying how lucky we were to be there.

We hired a bungalow for the night which I would NOT recommend to anyone. It was the biggest waste of money. 600bht for a shack with no electricity, the hardest bed I have ever lay on (I didn't sleep until sunrise it was so uncomfortable) and bathroom infested with roaches. I'm sure we would have had a better time camping but were too tired to set up tents when we arrived. Tents were 200bht a night and entrance is an additional 200bht on top of that.

There is a small kitchen area serving up food, although what we had wasn't anything to write home about but still ok.

We hiked up to the pirate waterfall which as it was dry season was little more that a dribble over some rocks - much more impressive in the rainy season I'm sure. The hike itself was hard work, my fiend got bitten by something large and black that shot out from under a log and we saw snakes and spiders. We saw one monkey and lots of big fat geckos :-)
All in all, I would recommend for a day trip as it is so beautiful but I could only give this 3 stars because Of the terrible bungalows.

I've been in many islands in Thailand and I think this one provided me all i wanted to have. Clear water, good food, cheap prices, sandy beach, marine life in abundance, cool trips, kayak rentals, monkies, flying squirel, tucan birds, good trees for hamok. Been with my tent, we hadn't any problems at all; only me and my girlfriend. During the trips we left all our stuff in the closed tent (beware of the makaks) and had no problems.

We visited the west side of Koh Adang on a long tail boat snorkelling tour from Koh Lipe.

It was really nice. The beach was empty and quiet. We had the entire place to ourselves (at least until a couple boats of Chinese tourists arrived).

The snorkelling was great. Way better than Koh Lipe. It's obvious that the coral hasn't been touristed to death like Koh Lipe.

We also visited Koh Riwe on the same trip and the water there was full of garbage. It was very disturbing to see all that trash in the water. It makes me sad how polluted the oceans are.

Koh Adang had no trash in the water. It must depend on the currents or the way the wind blows.

Koh Adang is like Koh Lipe without the tourists and without the bars.

You can visit here for the day or stay in a National Park bungalow, use a National Park tent or bring your equipment (which I did).

The island is fantastic for hiking and nature lovers.

The walk to the view point is the main attraction here and it will take you around 40 minutes. I suggest that you do not even consider trying this hike in flip flops because it can be dangerous! The same applies to the waterfall hike which will take around 45 minutes.

Koh Adang is part of the National Park so it should be prohibited from development, however there is a resort that has been built and is now fully functioning which is a shame because I believe Adang should stay as it is and I hope that this is not the benchmark for more resort development on this island.

Bungalows were 600B in Nov, park tents were 200B plus bedding (50B p/p) and if you bring your own tent its 30B per night.

There is a restaurant on the island that serves basic Thai meals. It is open from around 7.45 Am - 2PM and then opens again at 5PM to around 8.30PM. The food is very good and reasonably priced. You can buy beers for 50B and Coca Cola etc.

It is so easy to get here from Koh Lipe, just ask a long-tail boat driver to go to Adang (its now 100B per person although in a group you can probably negotiate).

Just a tip - If you plan on exploring Tarutao National Park keep your park entrance ticket (which you pay for when arriving on Koh Lipe).

Just go, one of my favorite spots in all of southern thailand. also, do the private snorkel boat with some other campers on the island, better reefs than ive seen in most places! move your tent for a ocean view and a much needed breeze. discover the rest for yourself (:
