Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The white Buddha is visible from much of Pai. A peaceful place that is a work in progress on the lower grounds. Came here for the sunrise instead of the sunset so we practically had the place to ourselves. Looked like there was a small forest fire recently. A tranquil way to start the day. We had a scooter to get up here although I saw a few people walking. Once back in town, there’s a few street food stalls.

Ok so the 300 steps for the view may not really be worth it. But there’s not much to do in Pai, so just take the hike! The view is great but the steps in the heat were killer. I would wait for the sunset! The view must be amazing. We had a free ride to take us all the way up mid day- so we jumped on the opportunity. Otherwise, I would have waited till it cooled down for sunset.

Under the blazing hot sun, we climbed up the flight of stairs to reach the White Buddha. The White Buddha unfortunately is broken in many places such as the fingers, the ears etc. We stayed for a short while as there wasn't many shaded places to stay around for long.
One would need to wear properly such as no shorts, no singlets and remove their shoes.

Pai is the "nimbin" town of Thailand(nimbin in australia offers an alternative lifesyle). It has a great art scene ,some interesting music, lots of hill tribe culture, a strong chinese and burmese influence and as of yet hasn't been decimated by tourists. There is no prostitution or go-go bars as yet. There are some very good restaurants one in particular is "charlie and leks's" which offers organic food cooked with love. It was some of the best food served to me over the past 3 months in thailand
There are hot springs, rafting, shopping, elephant tours, and some great roads for motor biking. a place not to be missed

This big Buddha statue is on a mountainside overlooking Pai. To get to it you can walk or cycle or go by motorbike if you do not want to do a tour. Go to the end of Walking Street and just after Mountain Bar and Pool Bar turn left and go over the large concrete road bridge. Go about 2 km and you will see a temple gateway on the left side with a steep road leading up. There are several coffee shops on the way. At the top there is a fortified castle type wall on the right side and a pagoda, while the Buddha is across a muddy carpark and up several hundred steps. On the left at the foot of the steps there is a small hut where you can borrow sarongs if you are not properly dressed for a temple. At the top you can get a great view of the mountains and countryside. If it has been raining be very careful driving or cycling downhill afterwards as there are hairpin bends and the road can be very slippery.

It is worth the visit as it is very near to town. Riding up was simple and not ultra steep. Walking up the steps to reach the Buddha was also manageable. Great place for sunset but I went to visit without waiting for sunset as I don't have patience for such. Overall, its a good place to drop by for a 10 to 20mins.

We took a tuk tuk to the base of the hill and then it was a high way up many steps, but the view was worth the effort.

Most people go for the sunset here but the sunrise is pretty spectacular too AND...no crowds! In fact we were the only ones at the top!
We arrived just after 7.30am when the sun was just behind the Buddha.
There’s a fair few steps up but it’s relatively easy.
We had a scooter so it was also really easy to get to.
Would definitely recommend and at sunrise to avoid the crowds!

A big Buddha that sits on a hill. It’s worth the climb. If you’ve done Tiger Cave Temple in Krabi, this climb is a sinch in comparison, although being a bottle of water just in case.
If you’re on a motorbike you can drive to the right and round and park in front of the white steps. However, if you’re walking there’s a narrow staircase up the hill before you have to climb the white steps (see my pictures).
There’s a beautiful temple at the bottom of the white steps, women should cover their knees and shoulders for both the temple and the big Buddha.

Hi,
I am planning to visit this place next month. What's the opening and closing time for this ?
And is this temple open through out the week ?
Thanks in advance :)
Written 11 March 2017
The Big Buddha is 24 hours but the temple at the bottom of the white steps might close around 19:00.

Is there a way to get to the top without climbing the stairs?
Written 4 December 2016
No, you need to climb the stairs. However the view is better from the small temple at the bottom of the staircase.

Where do I find it from central Pai?
Written 27 December 2014
Hi
It's pretty much as per the answer above. Cross the bridge take the left fork. It's pretty easy to find if you have a sense of direction.mone thing I found was even if you took a wrong turn you almost always managed to find a way.mi would also recommend a visit to the tea house on top of the hill on the town side of Pai. The view is awesome !
