Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

View was amazing and definitely worth the trek, but even at 10:30am and how short the hike was (10-15 minutes) I must have lost 5 lbs from sweating. Be prepared with sneakers or at least more study sandals with straps as you will be climbing rocks with ropes to guide you up. There was a small fee $25 or 50 bh per person to go to the viewpoint and beach.

Amazing view of shark bay and Chalok, but DO NOT try to climb up here if you aren’t ready for a scramble! You will be climbing up steep inclines, over boulders, with some rope to help pull yourself up. We went a particularly hot day too, and trust me, you need to bring water! There was no sign en-route suggesting it would be like this so this is your warning! However, If you are feeling up for the challenge the viewpoint is spectacular, there really is no other way to describe it.

It’s also 50 THB each to get into freedom beach, which is where you walk through to start walking up to the viewpoint. Just something to consider if you’re on a tight budget!

100 bht each to enter this area which includes the viewpoint and freedom beach and free bottle of water) but we felt it was worth it. Beautiful views, nice climb and nobody around (probably due to the fee). Would recommend.

Horrible and deadly. Pay 50 baht/person for a deadly climb where one indiscretion leads to at least one broken leg is completely unnecessary. Never go up there is my tip. There are incredibly many nicer views than from there that are also not a few meters from death. Recommend secret bar 100 times more. Never visit this place

We passed by the 360 viewpoint thinkiing it was a bit silly to pay to go to a 360 pagoda. Then after arriving to the parking lot of John Suwan we paid DOUBLE for the privilege of climbing up sharp rocks with old boat rope that wasn't doing much to help you to get to the top of the viewpoint. We were already there so we did it (in flip flops, not recommended) and the view was nice but I think I would opt to skip this one next time.

For 100Baht you get the choice of 2 beaches 1 with a bar and 1 with activities, the choice to climb to the viewpoint AND a bottle of water.

The climb is very rocky, with a rope along the way to help you up (or down) we went quite early, no queues and only 1 couple there. Great views, great photos.

Totally go here!!!!! The most amazing view and the most iconic spot for a photo, however DONT hike in the middle of the day. You will DIE. We hiked at 11:30 even though it’s about 20 mins it’s challenging on these rocks with a rope, you will overheat and struggle we had to sit down for a really long time to recover because I had never ever sweat that much in my life. Beware.

What a stunning view from here, amazing place to take the pictures you will always treasure. And don’t be shy if you travel alone, someone will always be happy to take your pictures with you in them, and of corse you can return the favour.

It’s a. Interesting walk/climb up using the well positioned ropes to help you, not recommended to wear flip flops and be careful even the easy bits are a bit slippery with loose gravel.

Truly a great place 🤗

I've been going to this view point for the past 3 years and in the sudden people who claimed the land decided to burn and cut all of the trees on the hiking path the the view point and set up a stand to charge hikers saying it costed them to develop the area for tourist's convenience (FYI: the old hiking path was one of the easiest hiking paths on the island and you could walk to the top within 10 mins only.). I understand that this is a private land but do you really have to destroy the nature? As local, I love to hike into beautiful natural places of Koh Tao but the the developments have ruined my favourite place on the island.

Although the view from John Suwan is unbelievably beautiful, this view point is relatively unknown for many visitor of Ko Tao. It is located at the most southern tip of Ko Tao near freedom beach. The best way to reach it is by hiring a motorbike, park it at Freedom Beach Resort and continue walk to your left then hike a moderate trail for 15 minutes. There is no clear sign of John Suwan, only a small plate hanging in one of the coconut tree at the entrance of the track. Best place to visit is 2-hrs before sunset, so you will have ample time to get down before dark. From the view point, you can see Chalok bay to your left and Thian Og bay to your right.
