very nice and relaxed little cove. Would be 5 stars but they charge 100 baht to enter? never seen this before in asia. Ive seen places charge and you get a drink and sunbed, but here it seems its just to put money in someones pocket.

Access to the rocks for snorkeling is from a couple of small beaches that are largely covered in rocks and flotsam. The beach area is covered in rubbish of all sorts (I picked up a handful of glass in a minute or two), many of the buildings around the beaches are dilapidated and full of rubbish. There are a couple of small local beach cafes serving the usual mixture of local and western food. Really it was disappointing. Some reviews mention it is quiet and a throwback to Thailand of the 1980s. Yes, it’s quiet, but because it’s a dump, not some sort of hidden gem. There are much better options on Koh Tao such as Ao Leuk and Tanote Bay. Don’t waste your time coming here.

Koh Tao was a beautiful island that ended in a nightmare. My friend was one of many people murdered here. I wouldn't recommend a visit it's just not worth it. 'It won't happen to me' that's what we thought. It was a pretty island and we did are open water with crystal they were awesome but I didn't feel safe on the island. So many other places to go.

Came here July doing the hike from Sairee Beach. Nice walk. From Sairee to Mae Haad was 30 min but tons of shops so you won't be bored. Then you hit Mae Haad. Take a break and grab a Bubble tea or Fruit shake or 7-11 before continuing on you will pass by nice Sensei resort. Great place for drink after/before beach.
You will follow signs to Jamson Bay/Sai Nauan Beach. It's about another 30 min or so with big uphills and downhills on concrete path. Very scenic thru out. You can put some bug spray on if you like. Jamson bay is first stop which has private resort there and suppose to pay 200 Baht but didn't see anyone there collecting. We just passed by and continued on to final destination -
Another .4km from there you arrive at Sai Nuan. Suppose to cost 100 Bht fee but no one there to collect. Maybe depends on season. Wow only a few bungalows there and palm trees, and giant boulders on both sides. Nice cove and sand is fine in the middle. Looks like you died and gone to south pacific. There were few people - only a handful as it is not accessible by motor bike but only foot. So great.
Most people set up under tree for shade and boulders on left are great place to climb and take photos.
Did some snorkelling but bit wavey, enter from middle where it's sandy. Short way from shore. You had to go out pass boulder and to the left to get to reef. As it was wavey we didn't venture that far off.
Lots of parrot fish/claim, some butterfly fish and rabbit fish etc.... Probably better with calmer seas or not when westerly monsoons
There is a natural pool between the boulders if you climb down.
Spend a day there and then venture back and stop off at Sensei for a drink or Mae Haad .
Great quiet spot and don't have to take mafia taxi prices..... all walkable and fairly flat compare to going elsewhere on the island
Hint rent snorkel sets in town for 100 Baht - 500Baht deposit
Hint bring snacks and water for beach as no where to eat really.
Enjoy

We stayed in Sai Nuan for about 3 weeks. It is a very nice set of small beaches with lots of rocks and fish around.
The bungalows are very basic but they are comfortable enough and good value, close to nature and the sea, some of them are built on the rocks right above the sea. This place is a lovely 40mn mini-trek from the Mae Haad pier, hence the best guests!
I recommend you stay and eat either at Siam Cookies or Sai Thong. Avoid the restaurant at the further end of the beach even if it has better views. Siam Cookies is the best cook around and the Rock bar opposite is nice for evening drinks.
You will need a lamp to head back to Mae Haad at night time though most of the path is lit up by the near-by resorts.

This is a lovely small beach, inaccessible directly by road. Unfortunately now there are many boats taking day trippers to the beach and when I last went it was quite busy. There is a reef off the beach that makes it a nice place to snorkel but mind the boats. Walk over to Banana Rock Bar for better snorkelling in my opinion.

If you are staying at the Mae Haad beach area and is just around 30 minutes walk to Sai Nuan Beach. It has Sai Nuan Beach 1 and Beach 2 which is very closed.
I like the Beach 2 more, have rocks in the sea with many fishes, best for snorkeling.
Have restaurants there so you can relax and enjoy drinks and food for a day there.

This small beach makes you feel you are in heaven .
You can access it either by walk or by taxi boat. I'd recommend to walk as taxi boat can be very expensive.
The beach is quiet as not known that much.
A great relaxing beach !

The title pretty much says it. This beach was just a 30 minute walk from our room at the Koh Tao Bamboo Huts and it was great. The snorkeling was some of the best I saw on the whole island and its not nearly as crowded as many of the hot spots.
Walked to a random little restaurant that you wouldn't think much of, but the food was quite delicious!
Overall - highly recommended!

Went to a handful of beaches in Ko Tao and Ko Phangan and this was our favorite. Quiet, secluded, clean, and close to a decent cafe and bar. The huts there looked nice and would be a great place to stay if you wanted some serious beach time.
Longtail taxis come by regularly if you need a lift back to town or to another beach. We walked here from the Koh Tao Bamboo Huts and it wasn't bad at all, very picturesque walk along the water.
Great snorkeling from the beach — snorkeled here all day and saw tons of different fish. Swim out a ways and you'll find some great live coral. I even saw a big 4ft hawksbill turtle, just hanging out and eating for about 5 minutes, surrounded by colorful parrotfish.

3 ways to get there.
1. Walk from the pier about 15 minutes or so.
2. Take a boat taxi from the pier (I'm guessing 150-200thb)
3. Ride a scooter or rent a taxi.
The only method I've taken is to walk. I actually rode my scooter to the end of the road heading south from the pier in the Charm churee resort. Then it was a 10 minute walk from where you park your scooter to sai nuan beach. There was no fee when I visited in 2016. Not sure now. The walk is really fun. It meanders through the little bungalows of the resort, then goes right along the ocean. It's mostly tree covered and has great ocean views all along. Here's a video that I put together. It shows Sai Nuan beach and a little bit of the snorkeling footage from that location starting at 1:58. It actually shows all the beaches I visited on koh Tao. the video is on you tube and it's called "Koh Tao Beach Comparison"

Hey guys, i am traveling in May next month with family, i want to know if anyone has an idea about shallow snorkeling beaches where we can see lots of fish as parents and small kids can't swim so any place with shallow water where snorkeling is great, i am already going to stay at nangyuan so any place besides that. thanks.

Jansom bay (south west), Sai Nuan (south west), Freedom beach (south), Haad Thien also called shark bay (south east), Ao Leuk (south east), Tanote (south east). All of these have beaches with shallow water up close to the beach and deeper water out farther where the snorkeling get's better. It partially depends on what week you are there according to the tide calendar. If the tide is really low then shark bay and freedom beach can be a bit of a pain to get out to deep enough water for snorkeling.
