We can't go near RAM SETU but can view little bit and imagine from a distance.
Its approximately 20 kms from Rameshwaram temple and 2kms from dhanushkodi village and you are standing at the tip of the nation. GREAT
Government Bus frequency are their from Agneetheertham Sea side ..for private vehicles no problem but autos charges are very high.
Its the meeting point also of the two seas..one being Indian Ocean and the other Bay of Bengal.
Either go early in morning or late evening if you want to enjoy maximum.
While visiting Ram Setu deactivate your International Roaming. You wont get indian company network but will get Srilankan mobile network ( see photo ).Any incoming / outgoing call can be costly.

Fabulous just to be here. Went early morning and got a glimpse of the sunrise over the Indian Ocean. Road leading to Ram Setu pen 6am and closes about 6pm. Just pleasant driving up to the end with the Indian Ocean on both sides of the road.

Mythology is backed by archaeology and modern technology! According to Ramayana, Lord Sri Rama prayed to King of ocean referred to as Sagara to give him way through sea to reach Lanka so that he and his troops of vanaras could cross and fight a war on the shores of Lanka to rescue Sita from the captivity of Ravana. Then Sagara suggested to construct a bridge / setu, using the skills of Nala who was a descendant of Viswa karma, chief engineer of devathas. So Sri Rama discussed with his generals and chalked out a plan how to carry on construction of setu. They surveyed the area and Rama dug / marked a place with tip of his bow / dhanush for the beginning of construction, which came to be known as Dhanushkodi .
Now,Vanaras first put logs of trees on ridge under the sea as foundation,. then put small stones and on that layer laid flat and big stones which had come up above the sea water. So, it was not random throwing of stones but well planned execution. All these details are given in Valmiki Ramayana. The bridge was completed in 5 days.It was 100 yojanas in length and 10 yojanas in width.
Till 15th century it was walkable but it was submerged in 1480 during a cyclone according to temple records. Even now it is only 3 to 30 feet deep. And according to Islamic records, a monk named as Adam crossed that bridge to reach Sri Lanka to do meditation so it was referred to as Adam's bridge in their chronicles.
Geological evidence suggests that this bridge is a former land connection India 's pamban island and Mannar of Sri Lanka. Satellite images from NASA clearly showed this bridge is in the exact location as mentioned in Ramayana with 10:1 length and breadth ratio. They confirmed that it is not natural formation but should have been man made! Our Mythology now can be considered as history!!
And this is also confluence of the Bay of Bengal and Indian Ocean and sand in Dhanushkodi beach is Wheatish in color and very fine like upma ravva whereas in Rameswaram, the sand is different in color and texture.
So, when you want to visit that place, if don't know this information it appears as only as sand and sea as any where else. But you will appreciate it that it has so much to say so be an enthusiastic tourist. !!!

I said in another review, you may not be allowed to go till the end point (or the actual start point) as the sand is very very soft. But I was determined to be there from the time I set my eyes on travelling to the Ram Setu. I so I did. Standing at the actual start point and realising that there was a bridge (in fact) put all my beliefs to test - who cares what the world says - it is immaterial - what mattered was that I was there and saw it with my own eyes and this life. I say that there was Ram Setu and there is still some left of it. Who built it, how the stones got together and floated, I may never know (may I don't want to) - but I am content with the fact that I am definitely among those very few living souls who reached the actual start point and came back redefined.

It is a historic bridge that connects Rameshwaram island of India to the north-western coast of Sri Lanka. You can just stand or walk on the bridge and it will give you an immense pleasure to have a never ending blue water see at both sides with cool and fresh wind.

As per the Hindu epic Ramayana, the Rama Sethu was built from the end point of Dhanushkodi which is the nearest landmass to Sri Lanka. None of the stones are visible today. NASA's satellite pics confirms the presence of such a stone bridge underwater lending some credibility to the legend

We went by our car to Dhanushkodi.
It was absolutely brilliant! Breathtaking views, consisting of a narrow stretch of land, with sea on both sides.Children were excited to see this and loved the drive itself. There is ample parking on the point. The beach itself was pristine white sand. The sand was soft and clean. I am sure we will remember that visit for a long time.

Hi , could you tell me how far Ram Sethu is from Dhanushkodi and how much time wil it take ? If i leave from Rameswaram around 2 pm, can i visit both the places or do i need to leave sooner ?
Written 2 September 2016
Yeah you can leave at 2pm and visit both. Ramsethu is around 2km from dhanushkodi, but there is no road and Mini bus/Jeep drive through sand so it takes time depending on how much water there is on the way.
Written 2 September 2016
we are coming for a day. how should we spend the without wasting
Written 28 January 2016
In a day it will be difficult to cover all the places . It will take 4-5 hrs for ramasethu visit and return itself. If main purpose for your visit is pilgrimage, then Rameswaram main temple ,gandhamadana hills and Rama, lakshana, seetha teerrhs and villoondi theerth can be covered in a day along with other nearby temples
Written 30 January 2016
What is the approximate time taken to visit this temple?
Written 9 November 2015
If you would like to visit all the theerthams which are located inside the temple along with the darshan, then 2 hrs minimum is required .
