It was a great deception. First, they increased the price : 500 rps. Plus, there is the boat ride 180 rps, plus the village taxe 5 rps. It is a lot of money for nothing much as empty caves (except the first one). I am not recommanding it at all !

Do not expect too much. It's a fun ferry ride. Toy train is ok with lots of crowd, on weekends its almost like Mumbai locals. Getting there is the fun part. There is a set of steep stairs, not for senior citizens. The caves themselves are ok. Not too many sculptures. You feel bad about the destruction wrecked by the... More

Better quality motor boats can be started.once we get down and walk towards cave, the hawkers havecencroached all the way selling all sort of foodstuff and handicrafts.I don't thinks tourists are going for shopping there.Local panchayat charge 5 rs tax in addition to entry fees, but cow dung and waste is commonly seen. Monkey menace is another headache. Unauthorised guides are... More

My husband and I are from Melbourne Australia and took the ferry ride from The Gate of India to Elephanta island on a Thursday. The ferry took us across and was at least an hour one way. It is a very slow ferry trip that gives you an opportunity of looking back on the city of Mumbai, or what you... More

an easy boat ride away from Gateway of India. A must do when you visit Bombay. Give yourself a half day, don't expect toilets or food.Look out for the monkeys but please don't feed them. Take a cap and sunscreen and good walking shoes. Ancient caves with amazing carving. Try to get a good knowledgeable guide who can point out... More

Apart from the one hour two way boat ride which is carried out in less than average conditions, the actual visit is very interesting. Understanding the historic, religious and cultural background adds a lot to the visit to India

Even though I'm a Mumbaikar, this was my first visit to Elephanta - one of the iconic attractions close to Mumbai. In fact the image of Lord Shiva's statue at this Heritage structure is the identity of tourism in Mumbai. So needless to say, I was very eager to visit Elephanta caves for a very long time. The caves are... More

This great excursion begins with an hour and twenty minute or so boat ride from the Gateway to India to the famous Elephanta Island and caves. When you get there, you trek up through some trails where there are tent markets along the way, with goats and cows standing around in various places (classic Asia). It's like National Geographic. There... More
