Part of the enjoyment of this attraction is the getting there on one of the many small motor ferries, as long as you pay the 20 rupees to sit up top, away from the diesel fumes. The caves are stunning, although the route lined with market stalls up from from the coast is steep and long and not for the... More

This was an interesting site, however the one hour boat ride each way, while pleasant, made it a time consuming one. Although I am glad I went, if time was an issue it could have been skipped. If stairs are a problem for you, do NOT GO. Upon arrival by boat, you catch a small trolly (or walk) to the... More

Best place to visit. Boat ride is enjoyable. If you are energetic and fit to walk and climb the stairs this is the right activity for you for almost 5 hours. Steps can be steep, there are just enough to get your heart rate up, or you pay a local to carry you with stairs but is expensive. There are... More

Such a lame place. First, you need to take a feri from gateway of india. It takes almost an hour to reach the place. Then a mile long walk. You then need to give entry fee of 20 to enter the island and market. Then you have to go through many stairs to actually reach cave point. Again entry fee... More

Maybe it was better because we'd read some of the other reviews. Maybe you just need to be prepared. First, the line to get into Gateway to India was confusing. Looked like there was a long line to that ran to a sign for "Elephanta Caves." There was a separate line to go through security into the Gateway area. First,... More

The Elephanta Caves is a series of Hindu and Buddhist caves in which there are a variety of sculptures and other monuments. The caves are fascinating to walk in and around and the journey to the caves, an hour by boat from the Gateway of India, is also very enjoyable. On the walk up to the caves there are also... More

It was dismayed and disappointed at how neglected this piece of History is. We didn't realize it was a public holiday and made the mistake to visit on that particular day. It was hot and crowded with people pushing without any reason. Prepare yourself for a long walk for nothing impressive.

Took an hour long Garry from the gate of India. Very nice ride climbed very steep 120 steps to cave. Not an easy task. Very impressive caves with carvings dated back to 3ac
