Lovely experience at the template and we were all so glad we went. As luck would have it, we arrived shortly before the mid-day service started and were fortunate to attend and experience it. My friends and I (all Canadian caucasian women) felt very comfortable, and welcomed. It was definitely a highlight to our trip to Goa.

Felt at peace, beautiful deity. Beautiful and well maintained temple. Visited on a friday so added bonus. Would definitely recommend a visit. But a request for info about the temple meet with a general reluctance from all including the officials of the temple. Was advised to visit the temple web site.

Goan temples are different. They are very clean and extremely well maintained.
if you are at this temple around 12 noon or so, thats the time they do a arati of the diety. One of the priests uses a mirror to direct sunlight from outside the premises to the garbha griham as an offering to the devi.
Nice visit and the temple canteen turned out to be simple surprise. Nice simple thali lunch. Refreshing.

Had never expected to go to a temple in South Goa - it is a very large and magnificent temple in South Goa. Fantastic orthogonal architecture with a huge influence of the typical Goan Portuguese architecture on the temple building style. Large courtyard and very nice idol of Durga mata.Is very very clean temple - one of the cleanest temples I have ever visited with drinking water and basic snacks (not hygienic) facilities available near the temple. Recommend carrying own food - filter cold drinking water is available within the temple premises. Mangeshi temple is much better than this temple.

Sri Shantadurga temple in Ponda , South Goa, belongs to the Hindu Gaur Saraswat Brahmin community and was built during the period 1713 AD to 1738 AD. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Shantadurga, who is an incarnation of Goddess Parvati. The temple complex has sloping roofs, a big water tank, a Deepstambha, and several guest houses.
Its nice and clean.

This is the 3rd temple one can cover after Mangeshi & Mahalasa Narayani while arriving by road from Panjim to Ponda in North Goa. One can see a water tank of the left hand side before the entry. There is a provision for keeping your foot ware & wash the feet before entry. During summer time the path to the temple can get pretty hot so there is a carpet spread. The temple itself is located at foot hills of a small hill & is surrounded by greenery which is seen while approaching the place. There is a narrow approach road & some flat land where the cars are parked & visitors have to walk some distance before climbing few steps leading to the temple complex. Fresh fruit salad, coconut water, local soda etc. is sold at the stalls outside besides local produce, gift items & some spices. It has a tall lamp tower in front of the temple entrance which is seen on Goa tourism brochures. This temple has the largest residential facility for the devotees & a small fee is charged for the stay. Shanta Durga temples are scattered throughout Goa by either same name or a small variation in it.

Nice to visit Hindu temple in Goa. Really good feeling. This temple is far from North Goa, but if you visit there someone can cover South Goa.
