About
The property is unique to Roatan. Just off the main road to a private beach area. This area is part of the Roatan Marine Park preserve. The reef system parallels the white sand beach of Sandy Bay The closiest swim to a underwater ecologial paradise teaming with tropical fish and corals. This area is a quiet tranquil area of Roatan without high end hotels and condos but close to the tourist meccas.

I stayed in Sandy Bay as places in WE were much more expensive. But the beach area was filthy, not a good place to lie out in the sun. Didnt like the restaurants here. Shared taxi drivers cheated me if I didn't have exact fare. Went to WE one day, didn't like the tourist crowd and the small beach.

We had rented a house on Sandy Bay for 5 weeks and only stayed for 2. The beach had about 20 feet of smelly seaweed full of fleas and garbage so you could not go into the water..

Also you had to climb over streams on wood etc to get along the beach. The best place was the Marina dock at Lawson Rock. The beach was eventually cleaned of seawood there but not at our end..

Moved to West Bay where the beach was beautiful and cleared of sea weed.

There were lots of dogs running around. You could not walk on the beach without a stick as the dogs would run at you.

This was a great little residential area. We were able to walk to Bahia Beach Grill. And snorkel from our home. Loved this area.

We stayed at a private rental listed on VRBO. It was directly on the beach. Your front yard was the beach! We were there for 9 days in total. The views from our beach house were unbelievable. The place we stayed at was called the Spooky Channel Guest house. The owners Al and Sandra were simply amazing! They were always very generous bringing us various fruits from the trees that grew on their property. Usually these fruits consisted of bananas or coconuts but really it just depends on what is in season when your visiting. One evening Al even roasted us some fresh cashews that grew on trees in the back yard.
The guest house was very nice and well equipped with cooking utensils, TV, Dvd's snorkeling equipment and a two person kayak to take out to the reef which was only maybe a couple of yards away in front of the guest house. If there was a down side to our visit it was the heat and the notorious sand fleas. I'm still recovering from their darn bites. My wife learned a lot about health and diet during our stay from Sandra who was completing her masters degree as a a dietitian. What she learned from her alone made the trip more than worth the expense of our stay. Our last night there Al and Sandra took us to a local Tiki Bar where a friend or theirs was playing music. It was a great way to cap off our last night at Sandy Bay. I guess I forgot to mention they picked us up at the airport when we arrived, took us to the grocery store, and then took us back to the airport when it was time to depart. The place is beautiful and the beach house was very nice. I can't say enough about the owners Al and Sandra. They went above and beyond! If your looking for a place on the beach at Sandy Bay, Check out the Spooky Channel Guest House on VRBO or HomeAway.

We rented a house at Sundancer Villas in Sandy Bay Roatan. This house was amazing the location of it was just really relaxing, I like the fact that we were close to West End and close to West Bay as well. The house was 3 bedrooms and 2/12 bathrooms nice kitchen living room was nice as well beautiful balconies. The bad thing about this house was the host or property manager her name is Vanessa Solorzano, she didn’t do anything to to make our visit good and a good one. Another bad thing about this rental was the fact that the refrigerator was not working properly or at least the ice maker wasn’t as hot as it is in Roatan and being in a rental property in front of the beach I think it’s just unacceptable, this made everyone at home so mad. The freezer whenever we would feel the ice maker cubes with water to try to get some ice, once the ice was done it would get all dirty or rusted from somewhere inside the freezer. I think the property owner really has to get rid of the property manager or demand her to do a much better job taking care of the tenants. Botton line I would just not stay here ever again and would not recommend this place to anyone....

Sandy Bay beach is a small and somewhat isolated beach. It provides a great access point to the water with excellent kayaking and particularly snorkeling. The reef is a 100 yard swim away and is the second largest in the world. Amazing variety of coral and a good number of brightly colored fish and lobsters, etc.

5 min walk from hotel. There were several good snorkel areas. And several good spots to get a meal and a delish Tropical drink.
Fair to good for sandy beach fun...But the beach is also the roadway to homes and small resorts...So beware of vehicles, 4 wheelers and scooters!
Unfortunately we were there during a few storms, beaches covered in sea grapes and grass. When they were finally cleaned up we discovered the lovely long sandy beaches. But also discovered that people let there dogs run loose and do not clean up the large and numerous poop spots. Everyone turns a blind eye and it ends up in the water as well. Many own 2-3 dogs! There's are also island dogs with fleas and open sores roaming for food, breeding, pooping every where. A big a Turn off for Tourists

Sandy Bay is a large area, so I can only speak to the area we stayed. We stayed at Blue Bahia, which is close to Tranquil Seas and Anthony's Key. The lagoon is a protected area of shallow water and the reef is about 200 yds offshore, so yes, you do have to swim quite a ways out over turtle grass and sandy flats to get to the reef, but once you are there you can swim along the reef for ages and there are a lot of fish and other sea life. I saw a pod of cuttlefish one day, about seven of them, and they are awesome! This area is more secluded than West End or West Bay, but great if you don't want the crowds. I would suggest heading over to Blue Bahia's restaurant for lunch and swim from there. Or the Windsurf school is right there too. There are diving shops are Blue Bahia and Tranquil Seas and AKR, and there are several great dive/snorkel sites right offshore. No, this is not a white sand, lay out in the sun, tourist beach. It is a more rustic area and more suited to adventurous folks who don't want to be surrounded by cruise shippers. Highly recommended either to stay or visit.

Although you must swim out a good distance, not for the out os shape, we have been very impressed with the quality of the water and the amount of creatures we have seen. We have snorkelled many reefs off Roatan and this one has the best sea life we have seen. We have seen everything from tiny fish by the thousands to 8' nurse sharks and everything in between!

We stayed on Sandy Bay and while the beach itself is nothing spectacular, just off shore is incredible snorkeling. Take a kayak and get to the reef. It's well worth it. You'll have the whole place to yourself-- with the sea turtles, eels, and rays.
