The 100% natural 40 acres of the Carambola Botanical Gardens and their many jungle trails offer a perfect place for hiking, wildlife and scenic photography, eco tours, bird watching, nature studies, and of course, relaxation. So, "take a walk on the...more

We had come full circle, standing on the top of the hill looking out at a large bay surrounded by turquoise waters and doted with a handful of houses. Back in 2011, my husband and I visited this garden while on a cruise. So enchanted...More
I have mixed reviews about this one. Let me preface by saying that we booked this through the cruise line which usually costs more than what you would pay if you did an independent tour. So my main issue is with the cruise line and...More
Excellent activity if inclined to explore. The inner pathways are well groomed and lead to a number of exotic collection areas many of which in bloom. The hike to the look out was something else...a real feel of the more wild side of the natural...More
We did this as a shore excursion while cruising on Royal Caribbean. We started with an informative guided tour, walking through a beautiful tropical garden viewing many different types of plants and trees. The tour ended at a covered pavilion where our chocolate making guide...More
The variety of species of trees and plants assembled here is very impressive. The Cannonball tree was in full bloom and spectacular. We particularly enjoyed how information was displayed about different species, especially spices such as All Spice which you would normally not recognize if...More
Many short paths with benches and small pavilions scattered about. Plants labeled here and there. Some demonstration areas, but seemed like just for booked groups. Independent exploration was fine and worth some time. I did not go up the mountain path, but with a little...More
Nice place to spend a few hours in the shaded gardens, hike to the view point overlooking Anthony's Key. Not as many birds, insects, flowering plants as I expected. I would recommend going along the hiking trail to the top and putting up direction signs...More
My family (four adults and four kids under 10) had a wonderful experience at Carambola. Mr. Brady himself gave us a tour of the garden, taught us about different species of plants and trees, and gave us some history of Roatan. It is clear that...More

You probably have the answer you need - however, your aunt COULD visit the gardens if she was content to stay in the lower part near the entrance building. There are places to sit and the trails are pretty easy to navigate. If it is rainy or wet, she shouldn't go, but if the conditions are dry I think she could manage parts of the park. If your aunt is content to sit by herself, or if someone can stay with her, then the others in your party will likely see what the park has to offer in about an hour to an hour and a half. I hope this is of some use to you.
