Finally, after several trips to the Balkans, I got to go and see this geological and historical lake up close! Besides the interesting geology of this large and ancient European lake, there's lots of history, especially important to those of the Orthodox Christian faith and many interesting monasteries along its shores.

We have now stayed on both ends of the lake. Stayed 2 weeks in Pogradec Albania in November 2016 and now 2 weeks at Ohrid in Macedonia. Ohrid is very touristy wheras Pogradec is inhabited by mainly Albanian locals. We visited Lin from Pogradec which was well worth the trip as its position behind a cliff right on the lake... More

This is one of the most picturesque lakes we've seen in the world. Clean, full of restaurants and cafes and really beautiful. You will not regret spending a few days here. Very highly recommended.

Being the largest and most beautiful out of Macedonia’s three tectonic lakes, Lake Ohrid is about 30 kilometers (18 miles) long and round 288 meters (945 feet) deep. Its astonishingly clean and clear waters, together with the serene stillness of its mountain settings have captivated visitors since prehistoric times. While the lake is filled up by water from three rivers,... More

Lake orhid is a truly wonderful surprise. Came here on way to Skopje after a recommendation. Can't beleive I' ve never heard of it. Lovely walks, variety of shops, eateries and bars to suit all tastes. The lake is spectacular and low cost airline flies from Luton, what a bonus! Just booked to come for longer in May.
