If you have 3 days free of program in Egypt I strongly recommend a 2 nights tour in Bahariya Oases with Western Desert Tour. The landscape is probably the one that you expect, but the images are totally unexpected. You will find yourself in a strange black desert (quite similar with Iceland) or in a absolutely marvelous exhibition of natural creations of white statues. In front of each one you have to imagine what the artist has created. Unbelievable and unimaginable if you don't spend one day of Egypt in the white desert. About accomodation don't worry. Khaled and his team (Mahmud, Osama, Waleed and Ehab - the people that contributed for our best holiday) provide almost everything you imagine it's possible in the desert. Private big tent, all meals included barbecue or cooked on site. About his guide qualities, I think he's the best. He knows every dune or stone and can provide many interesting information.
Starting from your hotel in Cairo or Alexandria and ending with the return to anywhere you want everything is scheduled and flew perfect. I insist, it's mandatory a visit of the white desert in Egypt. The memories are unforgettable.

This is such a unique and beautiful experience. I went for 2 days/1 night due to other travel plans but I recommend going for more days if you are able to!
First, corresponding with Khaled is easy, he is both prompt and professional. He took care of all of the organization of the trip which is a relief, all you need to do is be ready for pick up, bring warm clothes for the night, have good shoes, toilet paper, a flashlight, and a power pack for your phone on hand. We were fortunate to have Khaled as our guide along with our driver Ahmed. Khaled has been doing tours for 16 years, not only can you tell that he prepared but that he is also passionate about the desert tour. Both Khaled and Ahmed always gave my partner and I space and privacy during the trip, although I encourage you to interact with Khaled as he is full of knowledge and is great at spotting neat rocks in the desert.
For the meals--before and after the desert we ate a delicious lunch made by Khaled's wife; dinner and breakfast in the desert were made by the team and were both so good that I definitely over ate my share.
The vehicle we used to travel in the desert is fun and perfect for the desert conditions.
Because February is colder, esp in the desert, we weren't able to sleep outside under the stars. The tent was extremely spacious and I stayed warm with the big camel blankets.
The views are unbelievable! We loved exploring the white desert and woke up early to watch the sunrise. Night time is just as mesmerizing though! I woke up at 3am and stepped outside, it was so peaceful and the desert was lit up perfectly by the moon. We also made stops at the black desert and crystal mountain which have their own magic to them. We also tried out some sand boarding and made a quick stop at the hot springs before the tour was over.
I cannot recommend this trip enough with Khaled and his team. It will go beyond your expectations! We felt well taken care of, and it honestly was nice to step away and just feel present without distractions.

My wife, mother-in-law, and I had an incredible 4 day, 3 night tour with Western Desert Tours. Khaled is very experienced and has excellent English. I strongly advise you to book and simply leave the itinerary up to him, as he can show all of the top sites. He is also a phenomenal cook, every meal is a complete spread of delicious and fresh, nutritional food. He even provided us with lunch just minutes before we left. Khaled, and our driver, Mohammed, looked after all of our needs and always went the extra mile. Khaled even helped arrange our bus ride back to Cairo after the tour without requesting any additional payment outside of the bus ticket price. I strongly recommend Western Desert Tours and look forward to completing a return trip with them one day.

If you are considering a desert trip in your itinerary in Egypt, don’t think. Just go for it. It is an amazing experience, more so if conducted by Khaled and his team. Extremely cordial and warm Khalid stands out for his accented English and welcoming smile. As you reach the Bahariya Oasis, where he lives he serves you lip smacking home cooked Egyptian lunch...hot n fresh!
The ride in the desert was in a four wheel drive and Mahmud our driver and guide was like a genie! He knows exactly what you want and always there grinning ear to ear. He took us around showing the best limestone structures, the crystal mountains and of course the dune rides!! He took us to the designated place for the stay and we had our tents ready with sleeping bags and enough blankets. He along with his fellow mate roasted some chicken as we sat star gazing around the camp fire. The hot sumptuous Egyptian dinner follows. Post dinner Mahmud along with his friends played a local instrument and sang some Egyptian numbers which created perfect ambience in the desert. Do wake up early to see the sun rise in the desert. After having a hearty breakfast with fresh fruits, bread, eggs, cakes, yogurt and a variety of tea and coffee we embarked on our return journey. We returned back to Khaled’s house and I must mention, as a lady traveller not used to staying outdoors I needed a washroom. Khaled knows what his guests requires. He has a spotless clean washroom with everything that you would need ready. I was amazed to see how well curated and organised the trip was. The vehicles to and Cairo were excellent...It was truly an experience of a lifetime and special thanks goes to Khaled and his team who takes care of every minute detail to make it a memorable one! A real 5 star experience

We took the 4 day 3 night trip that included Whale Valley, white and black deserts, crystal mountain., Bahariya Oasis, plus much more. What really impressed us was the care, hospitality, and genuine friendliness that was provided. These attributes are what makes a trip memorable and special. Our guide was Osama and he provided a laid back vibe that helped us settle into desert mode. As a bonus he is a fantastic cook with 3 meals a day prepared from scratch. We enjoy camping and this was a fantastic opportunity to explore the desert while being spoiled with care. Don't expect white linen and china like a five star resort but do expect a million star night sky while snuggled under camel hair blankets.
Communication in advance from Khaled was clear so we had no problems with transport from Cairo.
We highly recommend Western Desert Tours and will use them for a longer trip the next time we return.

Absolutely amazing experience, Khaled and Mahmoud go above and beyond for their guests and everything exceeded my expectations! They clearly love their job and it shows in the level of care and customer service that they provide. This was a once in a lifetime kind of experience and I would come again in a heart beat. Thank you for your kind hospitality, I hope to see you again soon!
Additional details:
We did a one night (two day) trip to the white desert from Cairo. If you have more time I highly recommend staying longer, minimum two nights, ideally more, in this breathtaking location.
Khaled organised a car pick up for us from Cairo, everything went very smoothly. Once we arrived at Khaled’s home in Bawati, an amazing lunch platter was brought to us, with all fresh ingredients from Khaled’s beautiful garden.
After lunch the three of us left with our guide extraordinaire Mahmoud in a 4x4. They had taken care of and thought of absolutely everything. Mahmoud is a highly experienced guide and desert driver and is very knowledgeable of the area. I felt extremely safe the entire time. He took us on an amazing tour of the black desert, crystal desert and white desert, showing us the most beautiful sights.
After an unforgettable afternoon touring these unique landscapes, we stopped at our campsite for the night. Whilst we watched the sunset, Mahmoud took care of absolutely everything, setting up an amazing camp for us and cooking dinner. Dinner was incredibly delicious and far exceeded my expectations. We spent the rest of the evening stargazing. Far from light pollution, the white desert offers one of the most beautiful skies I have ever seen in my life. Although we could have slept inside the tent that Mahmoud had kindly set up for us, we chose to sleep under the stars to let the stargazing go on a little while longer. The mattresses we slept on were very comfortable and the blankets/pillows were fresh. Amazing night’s sleep.
The next morning we woke up for sunrise and Mahmoud made us an amazing breakfast with a huge fresh fruit salad, eggs, toast... Once the camp was packed up, we drove out of the desert, passing by some more sights, and drove back to Bawati. On the way back we stopped by a natural pool to freshen up which was highly appreciated. Once back at Khaled’s home, we were yet again treated with a beautiful lunch platter. We were also able to shower and charge our electronics at Khaled’s place. The coordination with the driver to take us back to Cairo was again very smooth.
Overall, it is obvious that Khaled and Mahmoud are passionate about their work and it clearly shows in the quality of costumer service that we received. Their hospitality was unforgettable and I hope to come back for longer in the future!
Thanks again Khaled and Mahmoud!

Everything was exactly the same way as it is mentioned in the previous rewies. My husband (63) and I (55) went with Khaled and Ahmed 3 days and 2 nights in the desert and for sure we will come back and take a longer tour starting in Wadi el Hitan for 5-6 days to Luxor.
The including transfer from Cairo took us 4 hours by normal car.
The nature is just breathtaking and Khalid is the best guide, cook, driver.... They made us feel blessed in this amazing nature. I would recommend this tour at least for 2 nights, because then you will stay in the Valley of Agabat and the little desert fox will join you for dinner. There are so many little thinks to discover and the places are totally safe. If I would have known about this place earlier, I would have taken my kids on this tour. In February it was not hot during the day, it was not dusty, not to cold ( 8 °C ) in the night (we had our own sleeping bags with us, otherwise they provide camhelwool blankets). Every 15 minutes the scenery is changing, we have got a lot of free time to walk, to relaxe.
Thanks a lot again to the team of Western- Desert- Tours.

We just finished an AMAZING 2 night/3 day trip with Western Desert tours and our only regret is that we did not book for longer! Western Desert tours is a family business that has been doing tours in the Sahara since the 1980’s and you can really feel their knowledge and passion for the desert. From the start of our interactions, the owner Khaled was so responsive and informative to really make sure we would get the most out of our experience in the desert.
They arranged a very comfortable private transfer to/from Cairo and right when we arrived at Khaled’s home in Baharia Oasis we felt like we were part of the family! We had a delicious lunch made fresh with ingredients from their garden before we got started.
Khaled’s nephews, Osama (our lead guide) and Mustafa took such great care of us the whole time we were on the tour! The family are natives of Baharia Oasis and we could really tell that the desert is not just a business but it really is their home.
We knew we were going to see some breath-taking scenery but Osama shared so much about the area’s history and how this beautiful area was formed.
Also, the 4x4 drive was truly an adventure! Each day the drive was different and the scenery would dramatically change in an instant. But beyond just the scenery, the DRIVE over the dunes and through the rock formations was thrilling! Come ready for an adventure! (But don’t worry, we felt 100% safe the entire time).
There is so much we could say about this experience... From the delicious fresh food (Osama and Mustafa prepared meals in the middle of the desert that would easily rival some of the GREAT local food we had in Cairo), the amazing isolated campsites, the warm camel blankets and comfortable mattress pads, and of course the unforgettable scenery... but you honestly have to get out here experience this for yourself with Western Desert Tours!
A trip to the Egyptian desert will no doubt be beautiful but Khaled, Osama, and Mustafa from Western Desert tours are who made this a truly unforgettable experience for us!!!
The experience and knowledge of your guide will make ALL the difference in your experience so choose wisely and contact Khaled! 😄

We spent 3 days/2 nights in the Black and White Deserts with Khaled’s Western Desert Tours. Khaled suggested this Magic Springs tours because he said 1 night in the desert feels too rushed. He was right - 3 days/2 nights was the perfect amount of time for our family. It gave us enough time to take it easy, to take long walks and really explore each place. Pre-trip communication was very good with Khaled and everything was on-time and well organized.
Our guide was Mahmoud and we had 2 drivers Mahmoud and Hamada. Mahmoud has excellent English and is truly kind, patient, and explains very nicely all the sights we see along the way. They took care of everything. They made delicious, traditional food and made us Bedouin tea over a fire at night. They even set up our beds with extra heavy camel hair blankets to keep us warm during the night.
The scenery was insanely beautiful and otherworldly. (Black desert, white desert, Agapat valley, Crystal mountain). Mahmoud pointed out amazing things to us like crystals, shark teeth, dinosaur eggs, snail fossils. Our first night we were alone in the Agapat valley, the 2nd night I believe we joined groups who are doing just 1 night so there were several groups camping there. As it was New Year’s eve, there were a few parties.
This group is all from the Baharyia Oasis and know the desert inside and out. They show a true respect and love of the desert.

The Western Desert tour was an absolute highlight of our trip to Egypt. We were three women travelling together and wanted something completely different from the temples and cities. We did a two day one night tour but I can easily see how people would spend a few more days out in the desert than this as there is so much to see and it's a completely different rhythm of life. As a city girl through and through, this night in the desert was honestly magical - I will remember the night sky and the stars for the rest of my life.
The tour is extremely well organised and you will feel very safe and well taken care of. The food was incredible and the guest house in the oasis where you begin and end your trip is so homey and fantastic. You will feel a world away from Cairo and the rest of the world. It is meditative and inspiring. Do this tour with these guys - they really know exactly what they are doing and have so much experience in this unique and stunningly beautiful part of Egypt!

My parents and I are interested in riding ATVs through the desert. Would this be possible? We are planning to visit mid-April.
Written 28 February 2018
Hi Sylvia,
Yes it should be possible. I was there in mid-march and it was fantastic. the weather can get windy though it could get sandy everywhere. But these guys are the and they will take great care of you people and ensure you get the best of the black and white desert. the journey time from Cairo to the desert area is significant so youll have to put aside atleast half a day for getting there and half a day for coming back. The food we had at the bahariya oasis was the best i ate in all of egypt! If you have more particular questions, please ask me and i would be happy to help if i can. Not exactly sure what you mean by ATV though, do you mean you want to ride the vehicle yourself?

Are there pick ups from Cairo to Siwa Oasis? If yes, how much is it both ways?

They will usually pick up or take you wherever you want if they can. It might cost a bit more but they are accommodating.
