Almost most of my holidays I travel to the mountains this time I went in carnival together with my cousins, and on the way to Riobamba we stayed in the "lagoon of colta", thanks to a friend who had recommended, is a place beautiful, located in the province of Chimborazo, spectacular place to spend with family, friends, boyfriends etc. Tickets with extremely low prices: 2 dollars for adults and 1 dollar for children bellow 12, the people were very friendly in such a way that attract many foreign tourists, and also from different provinces of the equator, also has boats to take a walk for all lagoon Especially is a place for see all beauty the landscape where also you can walk for hours according to the availability of each person, I would recommend you to visit.

"La laguna de Colta" is located in the northwestern part of the province of Chimborazo in Colta, 17 km from the city of Riobamba. Its name in language PuruhĆ” is "Kulta Kucha" which means "Laguna de Pato" ( duck lagoon ) .Here the climate is mild, the temperature is between 12ĀŗC.
The lagoon is surrounded by lush vegetation and inside there are several species of native birds and many fish of differents colors. You can observe this lagoon from the road and this place is adorned by the Chimborazo volcano and its wondeful nature, with unique Andean landscapes.
Around the lake there are many houses and huts. In addition the railway line crosses along its shore.

We visited Laguna de Colta end of July and the weather wasn't the best. Quite cold with a bit of rain, Chimborazo covered in clouds. Place offers playground for children and a boat trip on the lake. The entrance was 60 cents for three of us as they didn't charge for our 2year old. Boat trip costs Ā£15 but we didn't take that offer because we preferred to just walk around the Laguna. There are toilets located at the entrance , there is no parking but still there is a space you can leave your car. There are two small shops close to the entrance, inside the park you can buy some sweets and warm broad beans. If you are hungry few minutes from the park there is a little place you can eat cuy for $4 or set lunch $1.5. Another option to eat is to go to restaurant close to first Catholic Church in Ecuador which is just few minutes away.

As one travels down the PanAmerican highway, the lake stands out at the foot of the mountains. Take a moment to enjoy the view. It is populated around the lake. There are no water sports or swimming.

We visited in December 2018 ($2 entry fee) and found it rather run down, only two other visitors who seemed ot be local youngsters. Large lake opposite the La Balbanera Chapel, in need of some TLC. Reeds/grass was taking over and boats moored there were sinking!
There is a small playground and large carpark - the loos were clean.

As a side trip, we went on a quick little boat ride on a double-decker boat and were told the legend of how the lake came to be. I didn't find that interesting at all but the view from the boat was wonderful, even if we couldn't see the top half of Chimborazo most of the time due to low hanging clouds.
The area around the lake is very nicely landscaped. A playground inside benefits the kids.
Just out side of the entrance, there are many food vendors that you can grab a bite to eat from.

We went via taxi and it was really beautiful to see the laguna and explore. It is a beautiful stop, close to Riobamba, and an easy thing to visit and see for a few hours.
