We arrived in Otavalo on Friday and decided to check the market out, it was a bit of a disappointment. On Saturday there was an amazing transformation, the streets were lined with venders. My advise is take your time to get an over all view...More

What a great chance to purchase Ecuadorian products and cheap prices. If you do not like to barter, this is not the place for you. Prices usually come down by 50% if you ask.

Visited on a Saturday, which is the big market day. So much to see. Lots and lots of vendors, selling all kinds of crafts. I just love bartering, which is customary. It can get quite crowded, so make sure you keep your personal belongings close...More

I am glad we came to Otavalo Market because we really got to see true craftsmanship of many products. However, there were many things that were just mass-produced and required haggling. We bought some beautiful blankets and a few small things.

It wasn't just the market but the fact that over 70% of the people are indigenous. I asked to take photos and was able to take many that were interesting. The crocheting and embroidery work is extraordinary and quite inexpensive. it is a place to...More

The oldest outdoor market in South America did not disappoint. Young and old alike in their traditional Ecuadorian attire were everywhere. The sights and smells of fresh fruits and vegetables of every imaginable variety lined an entire block; inside the square countless vendors offered alpaca...More

Nothing I haven't seen before in Quito or for that matter in Europe at a Christmas market. It's only for tourists.

I think that in one day you can visit Otavalo. Include the artesanal MArket, San Pablo Lake and maybe Catacachi market.
