Cero (hill) Santa Ana, aka Las Peñas, is the heart and soul of Guayaquil. Beautifully restored, suggestion is to walk around lower level to Wyndham Hotel on far side. No need to climb 440 steps to El Faro (lighthouse) although there are various restaurants and...More

This barrio has been thoroughly cleaned up, has tight security, and forms a superb component of the malecón 2000. Basically you walk up from the shoreline walk up about 500 steps winding through cute brightly painted houses and small shops. There is a museum, church,...More

We climbed the 400+ steps to enjoy the views and it was worth it. Darling shops and small restaurants along the way. A truly unique part of town worth visiting.

We went up here during the day as we are not young, nor party types. I got a sunburn but I'm no worse for wear since we paused along the way. Good views when you get to the top and places to sit occasionally. Worth...More

This is a very old part of Guayaquil that has undergone some urban renewal. The buildings are now painted a variety of bright and happy colors. There are some architecturally interesting buildings to see. Lots of security officers are keeping an eye on activity to...More
