We planned a trip to Virunga National Park in DRC Congo using Kasitu Eco Tours (KET) after reviewing options on TripAdvisor. We were travelling from Nairobi and had three nights and four days to see gorillas and climb Nyiragongo Volcano. This was quite achievable and...More

Let me just say that trekking up and viewing the mighty Nyiragongo magmatic lake was unbelievable! The weather was extremely kind to us, offering us clear skies in the middle of rainy season. To observe the furious activities of the magma was out of this...More

The hike is long, but for sure not as strenuos as other Virunga summits. For example, the hike to Muhabura on the Ugandan side is longer and steeper. The hike to Nyiragongo is never scary. And the view on the top were amazing, both towards...More

A difficult trek for sure, but the lava lake is completely incredible. We were completely mesmerized by the roaring waves of lava, and you get to stay in basic huts on the edge of the crater. A piece of advice: hire a porter and also...More

It is not possible. You need two days. The real experience of the volcano comes during the night you spend on the rim. You dont see much during the day.
