The views at the top are incredible- both of the volcano but also the broader landscapes But the hike is very hard. The weather constantly changes - we had periods of hail and intense sun during our hike up. The hike up is a challenge...More

Me and my wife (age 55) are not very sporty, walking dog and golfing are the only exercise we do. We were bit afraid that climbing the volcano will be too difficult for us but we made it and I believe that everybody in reasonable...More

Great hiking, perfect organization, and professional guide/ranger Benoit. No issue with security. Amazing feeling looking into the open heart of the Earth. Be ready for long walking in first phase, and for hiking at the end. Weather allowed us to watch this "performance of hell"...More

This is incredible & a must do. Book it directly through the park, there's no need to use a tour operator. You climb about 1500M vertical / 8km distance at a very relaxed pace - they want the whole group to stay together, so you...More

I just came back a few days ago. Remembering the hike up and the sights once i arrived at the top will be with me forever. The hike is strenuous but the first 1 1/2 hrs is easy, after that it gets more vertical. Its...More

Nature’s awesome forces at work. Difficult hike due to steep incline and rocky terrain, plus altitude. I’m 50 and very fit and found it pretty challenging, glad I brought knee supports. Plan on a porter. $25 US dollars plus tip, they earn it! bring plenty...More

I hiked Nyiragongo about nine months ago and, looking back on the recent reviews, agree with almost everything I see. Despite only having around an hour or two of being able to view the lava lake, it is well worth the effort and money to...More

The crater is about 2 km im diameter while the lava lake is 500m in diameter. You can see it clearly even tho you are still some distance away. But absolutely worth it!!

The porters will carry any bag--yours or one that you rent from the park. There are pre-planned rest points on the ascent where the porters and the packs they are carrying will be available to you. It's better to carry... More

I got my visas in advance. A woman in line got rejected when she tried to get it at the counter. She was from a neighbouring country though so not sure what her circumstances were.
