What a lovely afternoon it was! Most important thing-kids loved it! Castle, donkey Frane, horse riding... Place is perfect as you can sit in the Grill bar and still have your eyes on the children, no need to run after them all the time. Very outgoing people that work there, always smiling and animating children. We will definitely come back!

On the positive side: the wooden castle is quite impressive. And there are lots of different activities for kids once you're inside. E.g. a catapult that fires small water balloons; pony rides; archery; a wooden hand-operated carousel; a donkey-drawn carriage, etc. But here is the negative: it's completely unclear how exactly you're supposed to do these things. When we arrived the only thing we were told was how to look at the animatronic cackling witch display. There are no timings, no signs indicating where to queue up, and the staff (understandably) focus on the German-speaking visitors who were the vast majority during our visit. So we fended for ourselves as best we could, eventually managing to get a ride on the pony and a go on the water balloon catapult, but only after much time wasting and aimless wandering. There are no play swords or armour for kids to use, other than wooden swords and shields that are sold for 40 kuna each at the entrance desk. It would have been nice if they provided foam swords and shields for kids to play with while they're there. Elsewhere there was a basket of adult-size metal swords which you could pick up and try, but we were told these weren't for use by children. (Rightly so - they were very heavy.) There appeared to be some kind of puzzle hunt with numbers attached to the castle walls at various places, but there are no signs giving instructions and no-one ever explained what this was, nor how to do it. And I was surprised there were no staff dressed as knights to create a medieval ambience. So overall we were quite disappointed because what we had expected to be a high point of our trip to Istria was actually quite underwhelming, given the cost. I am a little surprised by the large number of five-ball ratings given by other reviewers.

We spent a fun couple of hours here exploring the wooden fort/castle and its grounds. There is lots to do for under 10s and it was nicely busy with young families when we visited. Activities include a catapult that fires water balloons, archery, pony rides, rides in a cart pulled by a donkey, a big fort to climb and explore, a little adventure playground, a Rapunzel style tower complete with dragon and witch, a small maze through some trees and even a small hand powered wooden Ferris wheel. There is also a dungeon with an animated witch and rather bizarrely for an attraction aimed at young children, a rather sinister and scary “house of truth” in which certain gruesome medieval torture devices can be viewed (real stuff of nightmares - best avoid that room if you have sensitive children). All in all, it was very well thought out - just a shame that our children (10 and 12) were slightly too old to get the magic of the place and they were a bit big for a lot of the activities (although they did love the water balloon firing catapult). Maybe a few more activities for older children would be a good idea although perhaps that would spoil the magic for the little ones who were all clearly enthralled by the castle.

Simple...great place to rest, have old way games, eat a good meal, and drink nice cold beer on the tower, or in shadow of trees, surrounded by animals, happy people and medival music...perfect time machine😁😁😁
