I could not leave Samobor with not beeing at this castle. I was going in a straight line up from city center early this day for seeing some chapels.

Didnt choose right way to the forrest for coming to Samobor Castle but after a little break in a cafe down. I started walk thru the city on the left side of river to I come to a kind of same point as the castle when I look up.

Found a sign there and had to guess because on my map it was not marked for going there. My choose was good but a little hard but I come direct up where I hoped to end.

Then I going around on the castle area and what is left of the walls of the castle.

Took a lot of photo and had it fantastic. There are no entry paying or info there up only what is left of walls.

This castle had been there since the year 1300 and I havent googling it yet. Only want to show my fantastic day there.

Really wanted to show the ruins to my family, as been there myself few years ago. Enduring challenge but beautiful and absolutely breathtaking views, with Zagreb panorama on horizon. Lovely spring nature too. Highly recommended

Stopped in to see the castle on our way from Zagreb to the Plitvice Lakes area. The hike was quite steep but the castle is quite cool. Wish there was a little more info about the place.

While in Samobor, don’t miss the chance to have the best Kremšnita in Croatia.

I probably picked a wrong day to visit the place.

It's a good 15 minutes walk and then 15 minutes hike from Samobor Museum. Hike is not that difficult but might be tough for not so active people.

Trail to the castle is lush green. There is a water fountain on the way. Water seems to be drinkable. Atleast I drank it with no issues.

Castle ruins are literally takenover by mother nature. Tress and plant are growing everywhere. It looks mesmerising.

During my visit to the castle, I seemed to be the only tourist there with 4 teenagers. They seemed like locals as all were carrying school backpacks. They asked me to leave as I moved towards the corner of the castle where they were sitting and enjoying their beers. When I ignored them, they threw a firecracker at me. It bursted with no harm to me. Obviously, I left after that.

Even if I ever go back there, I wont be going alone.

Not to long walk through forrest, accessible with small children. Beautiful view on Samobor city. Great in summer days when everywhere else is hot.

You can get to Samobor from Zagreb by bus, around 45 mins. The bus can be taken from the main bus station. if you are in the centre of Zagreb, take the tram no. 6 to the bus station and switch to the bus. Decided to make the day trip as we were running out of things to do in Zagreb. Samobor is well known for creating the cream cake and it did not disappoint. It took us about half an hour to climb up the hill to get to the castle. To get to the point to make the ascent, we walked along the river. The climb up is not suitable for the elderly as there are loose stones abound and is an incline. The castle is an open air ruin and gave a panoramic view of Samobor. We were advised to take a different route back to the town and we did. It was a much gentler downhill path and being autumn, we enjoyed the lovely colours. Would strongly suggest this visit if there is time to spare.

It’s no fun when you have an easy man-made clear way to get to a castle. Well, not this time! Adventure yourself to trails in order to find this awesome castle ruin always watching over the cute town of Samobor! A must do place to go to and the trip is not complete until you reach this castle!
Easy to take great pictures because usually not many people tour there at once!

It's only a 20 minute hike up to the castle from the main city square. Take the walking trail on the far size of the stream from the square and it gradually starts to rise into a nice woodland trail that can be a bit steepish in places. The castle is ruined although it is possible to walk around the walls and thru some of the structures.
If you continue walking up the trails you will reach a small church, and then continue walking up the trail alongside the road for another 5 minutes to reach a viewing platform which you can claim to get excellent views over Sambour and the hinterland.
There are maps of the trails at the town square info centre and most converge up near the church, and on the way down, they all seem to converge at the town.
Sambour is a 40 minute bus ride from Zagreb and busses run every half hour.
