This was our second visit to Cavtat. It is such a pretty, relaxing place to stay. We introduced friends to this wonderful place this year and they loved it also. So close to the airport and an hour away by boat from Dubrovnik. There's lots to do around the area but if you want peace and quiet, amazing food with fabulous people, this is the place for you.

Cavtat Old Town is located near the Dubrovnik Airport and there are some interesting points like churches (St. Nicholas Church or the Monastery of Our Lady of Snow), a very nice promenade close to the sea, a leisure port, some bars and restaurant (like Peco Pastry&Coffee shop), a cemetery with very beautiful views of the surroundings and some pathwlaks. It is a very nice little town to walk and, in our case, to finish the journey in Dalmatian Coast. Great little place, people very friendly, nice place to spend a couple of days. A few things to see plenty of watersports and lively at night. Dubrovnik is just a short distance away by boat or bus.

Like a step back in time! Cavtat is starting it's journey towards commercialism and as such is still charmingly old fashioned. Traditional restaurants and bars rather than pushy establishments with employees trying to drag you inside their businesses. It is beautiful and the sea is so warm and clear. Just don't expect beaches, sandy or otherwise. This area is rocky and beaches are levelled areas of rock with steps or pool type ladders to the water.

Beautiful, charming, awesome... I was in extasis when I was walking around Cavtat. Great places to swim in ultra clean waters of Adriatic sea. If you have the time, spend a day in this town. You will feel paradise on earth

Absolutely feel in love with Cavtat. It is the most beautiful place. The town is gorgeous. Lovely restaurants, but it’s the views and the water that is to die for. Loved swimming, kayaking and paddle boarding here. The water is crystal clear and so many fish. I didn’t want to get out. Watched the best sunsets in Cavtat. Saw three during our week and they blew me away. Stunning. Would return to Cavtat in a heart beat. We visited Dubrovnik and I was soooo pleased we didn’t stay there. Cool city but Cavtat is just so beautiful and lovely and quiet. There was also so much going on. Each night there was some kind of entertainment - from the summer fair to dancing to a Capella groups. Loved it all. Wished we didn’t have to leave.

The Adriana Ferry at €10 each way is a bargain for a 45 minute boat ride past Lokrum Island and three, beautiful towns including a ferry stop at Mlini on the return. Cavtat itself is a great walking town with a wrap around “Riva” on the west side and quaint harbour/marina on the east side connected by a short flat walkway. Lots of food options, but we opted for a lunch at Bouganvillia, a recently awarded Michelin Guide mention indicating fine food and service at reasonable prices. Disabled friendly near the water. Some stairs if you want to explore. Beaches and swimming a short walk to the north side of the west harbour. Tour boats and ferries available right on the Riva. Montenegro is 22 Km’s away.

Very attractive little town to walk around and stop for coffee. We had an early flight and could not get into our hotel, so the coach dropped us off at Cavtat for a couple of hours. If I had had any sleep the night before I would have enjoyed it more.

Beautiful. A harbor side, tiny village, with pretty boats and restaurants. A must see. We stayed in Dubrovnik, and went to Catvat on a boat which runs very frequently. Find the supermarket to buy local wines for just a few euros, they were amazing.

I read that Cavtat began life in the third century BC as Epidaurum, a colony founded by the Greeks from the island of Vis. It was destroyed in the 7th century and occasional excavations have revealed several remains of the antique town. The pretty village of Cavtat grew up in its place. It was discovered by Austro-Hungarian tourists at the beginning of the twentieth century; however, development was slow and fortunately much of Cavtat’s charm survives along the seafront promenade. Unfortunately, there was quite a bit of construction during our visit. Cavtat is set on a horseshoe-shaped bay, defined by two long peninsulas covered in pine forests with the port and a tree-lined promenade in between. While Cavtat’s old town is small, I found it to be very atmospheric. Sloping gently up from the promenade, the narrow streets are full of attractive village houses. We drove to Cavtat from Dubrovnik but it can be easily reached via boats that leave from Dubrovnik’s Old Port – it is cheaper if you purchase a round trip ticket but you would have to return with the same company. Or, you can also reach Cavtat by public bus #10 and the journey will take about 30 minutes. Once we parked, we first dropped in at the Tourist Office. The office was staffed by two people who were singularly unhelpful, never acknowledged our presence and spent their time on their computers. We were the only ones there. Even saying Hello received no response. So we picked up a few brochures and left. The suggested walking path brochure was particularly helpful. Don’t miss the parish church of St Nicholas at the bottom of the hill and the scenic views from Cavtat’s cemetery at the top. Halfway to the cemetery we found The House of Vlaho Bukovac, an art museum. You can see more of Bukovac’s work at the former Rector’s Palace, along with a collection of Roman artefacts. The biggest tourist attractions are located along the seaside promenade. However, I also encourage you to just wander up the staircases that lead to the residential areas. The views are beautiful and it is a nice way to admire some older buildings. Lastly, take the time to just relax and grab a meal, or just a drink at one of the restaurants that line the seafront.
