We rode our scooter from gucheng to erhai. The view is magnificent. The lake is breathtaking. If you're looking for adventure, do rent a scooter and drive around! Super awesome area. The locals are very friendly and things are pretty cheap around.

A boat trip on the lake is the ideal way to get away from the hustle and bustle of the town and get into open space.

As we live here in Dali we often visit the lake and at that visit different parts. Over Chinese New Year we went to different sections, we still love the area near the Olympic Centre in Xia Guan, kids love to try and catch fish there. Other areas we enjoy the board walks or throwing stones in. Often on the... More

The lake is central to Dali and close to the old town. It is a very peaceful location without motorized crafts and noisy boats. It is possible to cycle around much of the lake and stop in some beautifully well preserved little towns and villages and sample some local food.

So beautiful place, different angles give you different views and feelings. From west you can see sunrise. From east you can see the amazing reflection of sunlight during nightfall.

There's a curvy walkway to view the lake. As we walk along the walkway you can breathe in fresh oxygen. There's a lot of mangrove and trees so you will get to see a lot of insects and fishes in the lake. The opening at the far end of the walkway you will come to a bigger platform where you... More

Beautiful lake. Great spot if you want to enjoy some quietness. Also check out streets and alleys of small local villages alongside the lake.

We had a lovely view of Erhai Lake from the balcony of our suite at the Hilton. The lake is huge. We also took a boat ride on the lake which was very pleasant and definitely recommended. Nice cold breeze and serene!

If you are visiting Dali, then a trip or two to the lake is in order. Feeding the gulls at sunrise. Visiting the villages along its edge...especially Xizhou. Visiting the colourful ethnic-minority markets. The only drawback is that the ring road at the lake's edge was impassable in several places due to repairs. Personally, if I went here again, I...
