Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Beautifully preserved ancient family dwelling. You could easily spend a couple of hours in here. The street outside is worth a look too.

The second part of the Qufu Kong triad of sites is the most disappointing. There are many pavilions and pagodas, but only a couple of them are actually open. Four in fact. And you can only go to the doors and peer inside, along with the 00's of other visitors all straining and craning to get a look. A huge part of the complex is boarded off and under going renovation as of September 2016, but many of the pavilions that are not being restored are closed and locked anyway. If you peer through the filthy glass, you may just see some of the sights inside and in some cases, the padlocked doors are open just a crack. But all in all, there's not much to see other than courtyards and padlocked doors. I can't believe this is how it's meant to be otherwise everyone who's ever been here would feel cheated.

It's amazing to see how Confucius who was raised in poverty and never attained the government position that he wanted, was able to surround himself with so much. This place is HUGE!

I was expecting more when visiting this area but found it being neglected and not maintained. It's not as well-kept as the temple area and everything seemed rundown with not much written description. Surprised that was the home for the great philosopher.

The only nice thing is that Confucius supposedly lived here. Thats probably a lie. Nothing of interest, nothing really to see. Also if you make a wrong turn, expect to pay again they dont want you retracing your steps.

I had a guide so she could explain a number of things. Apparently the descendent of confucius has escaped to china together with the Nationalist Army and taken all the valuable things with him. So we are mainly left with empty rooms here. The garden at the back is interesting as he could not take it away. Women married into the family were not allowed to leave the compound. They can only take water from a convoluted opening in the wall (see picture).

Honestly I shouldn't have written this review, as this trip happened many years ago. However I couldn't remove this rating. So let me still put a short review here.

The Kong Mansion is one of the oldest places, to commemorate Confucius and his legacy. This place has a long, long history. But the architecture wasn't too well maintained, and some of the recent renovations don't look as well as the old original ones.

Also, during each and every major holidays, this place will take in a bit too many tourists.

Bought a 3-attraction pass for the Temple, Mansion & Forrest of Confucius, and did this one first. For a person who was so influential and important, the 3 attractions don’t seem to want you to know a lot about him. There are very few signs in English, and not that many more in Chinese. I think the idea is to coerce you into getting an audio guide, but I’ve been to attractions all over Asia where you don’t need one, and still have an educational, as well as fun, experience, but I didn’t get that here. Nothing looks very authentically old, and you realise that almost all of what you see has been rebuilt after the originals were destroyed or simply wore away over time. Confucius’ tomb is basically a small hut full of stalls. The commercialisation of the sites is ridiculous, with vendors trying to sell you the same trinkets at every corner. The areas were very nice, and it was great to walk about in the beautiful surroundings, but none of the attractions offer you anything special or unforgettable. If you’re really interested in Confucius then you might like it, but if you wanted to learn anything about him you’ll be pretty disappointed.

Housing complex for Confucius decendent to conducting official business and served as residence. A number of emperors also visited to pay respect to the family. Nothing unique here, a let down.
