The zoo is under significant updates, which should help for those visiting in the future. I was a little disappointed that everything "extra" cost more money, even the little train ride through the zoo. I didn't mind paying a little extra to feed the birds or ride the camel, but for a family of five it added up quickly. You... More

it is still a work in progress. again. construction and it is not pretty anymore. disappointment was the word. they took away the beautiful birds at the entrance and the fountain and path years ago without replacing it with anything but dirt. would love to be proud of our zoo but it is not the time now.

The Birmingham Zoo is a great place for kids/families. It's been a while since my visit, but I do remember there is a great play area for kids, including a carousel. There were some animals missing in a few areas, but still plenty to see. There is a large covered area to eat under, but of course the food is... More

We visited on April 12th and it must of just been bad timing. There was construction lots of places, and about 10 school buses were there so the park was covered up. One employee told us she'd worked there for 10 years and never seen it that busy. In my opinion, something scheduled that large should be placed on the... More

We had a blast here. Tons of animals lots of exhibits. The monkeys were so active and happy. The elephants were in a huge exhibit and were also very active. I am excited to go back.

They are doing some renovations to the zoo, so maybe after they are done with everything, the experience will get better. We didn't get to see a lot of animals. The Rhinos, zebra, as well as the tiger were "under veterinarian care". Couldn't see the poisonous frog because the cave they are in was flooded out due to rain the... More

I have not been there in years and was pleasantly surprised. We were there on a fundraiser day with lots of vendor food included in price. Will go back soon.

I've served on an AZA accredited zoo board of trustees (Seneca Park) and am a veterinarian so I take a critical look at a zoo's operations. The folks at the Birmingham Zoo and all the wonderful folks that support the mission are doing a great job under all the challenging constraints today's zoos face. Keep up the investment in transforming... More

Our grandchildren love our zoo visits. We now have a membership that allows our three children and all their kids (and us) to come and go as often as we want. We highly recommend this option to all our friends as it means we're can pop in for a short morning visit then go home for lunch and naps. We... More

We loved our visit to this zoo. We had previously adopted Tadpole, a hippopotamus at the zoo. Elizabeth, one of the zookeepers, gave us a great rundown on Tadpole. Michelle, one of the bird zookeepers, gave us some great information on all of the birds. Rochelle, at the Judson Bar restaurant inside the zoo, provided super friendly service and we... More
