Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

It more fun watching the reactions of the Chinese people who visited this. We stopped to have a snack in the cool of the mountain air. Very good hike

There are lots of pine trees everywhere on Mt Huangshan, some of which are shaped like the Greeting Pine. It is not spectacular but this is one of the icons of Mt Huangshan so we nonetheless took pictures with it. It's a short walk from the Yuping cable car station - walk up the 好汉坡 from the cable car station, turn right and walk until you see shops, and the Greeting Pine can be seen from the platform down a few steps.

Package tours from Singapore don't visit this as the Greeting Pine is at the 前山(Western Steps). Instead, package tours from Singapore visit the 探海松 (Exploring Ocean Pine) also nicknamed 小迎客松 (Mini Greeting Pine) at 后山 (Eastern Steps).

There is many pines on mountain. However, this pine will be a good indicator that your are nearing your hotel if you stay along the front part of the mountain

Don't really understand why this is famous. It's a nice tree but there are many beautiful trees on the mountain. If you don't pass by it, skip it and just enjoy the amazing views instead. Also, very crowded

We were told that the govevrnment spends 6m RMB per year to maintain this tree. The branches and trunks are mechanically supported. It was a nice view point.

The Welcome Pine is all about the journey and it will be one you make surrounded by tourists from all over the world and of course mainly China. Lots of steep steps to get there - even the quick route via Gondola - Pick a fine day as the views of the tree and around this area of the Huang Shan Mountains will be spectacular - we walked there in mist and rain from another side of the range - 4 hours plus it took and 7km of unbelievably precipitous but fabulously constructed concrete pathway wide enough to pass trampers in the other direction. 2 to 3 days required to take in most of the key sites in the range - stay in comfortable hotels among the peaks and leave your heavy gear down in the town before catching the bus to the Gondolas. This is not a trip for the closed, negative or cynical minded and you need to be fit and healthy to do the walks. Sedan chair facilities are available for the infirm and disabled.

This is perhaps one of the most well known pine in the world with great percentage of Chinese knew this pine from books and stories. With that being said, anything carries such historical weight can sometimes disappoint you, and I am afraid that this might be the one.
Well, it is a great looking pine, but there are many great looking pines in Huangshan! Not that this is not special, but to me the fame is much over the proportion! But, as most things famous in history - this is almost a must see if one made all the efforts to come to Huangshan.
To me, whether one is impressed by the Greeting Pine or not does not matter because he would most likely impressed by Huangshan as a whole, the mountain is simply breath taking and step by step along the mountain trails you see nature wonder constantly change in front of your eye, it is a treat of lifetime!
To me, the fact that a single pine has such high historical significance is more intriguing to learn about Chinese culture (classic and popular) than how beautiful this pine is!

That's the main objective for many Chinese visitors who come to Haungshan. So you will be alone there and the site itself is very commercialized with shops, snack stands and the Yupinglou hotel. The easiest way to get there is to take the Yuping cable car and not the more popular Yungu one. It is only 10-15 minutes from the Yuping cable car station.

Maybe I was unlucky but the tree had a lot of scaffolding around the bottom 3rd and was supported by steel cables. All in all it looked quite unnatural. I'm sure it is more attractive without all the metallic extras.
