Because there are so many hiking paths and scenic views up on the summit, it is best to stay at least one night up there, maybe two, which also gives you a chance at a remarkable sunrise as well. If you don't stay the night up there, you will not be able to reach the summit in time for sunrise, if staying the night at the base of the mountain. Depending on your travel plans though, you may want to stay the night at the base on the day of your arrival or departure, and for that, I would recommend Huashan Boutique/Huiyan Hotel which is located at Tunxi Old Street, which is a pedestrian/walking street lined with small shops.. a very nice way to spend the evening at the beginning or end of your adventure. Again, this location is at the base of the mountain area. If you ascend using the Yungu Cable car (aka Cloudy Valley) which is on the Eastern part of the summit, then I would recommend using either the Beihai hotel or the Xihai hotel. I stayed at the Xihai hotel and it was nice. As others have said, all of the hotels are pricey up on the summit, but the area is so remote, it is understandable. If you ascend using the Yuping Cable car on the Western side, then I would recommend either the Baiyun hotel or the Tianhai hotel. I stayed at the Baiyun hotel and had no issues. The summit area is quite vast, with many kilometers of hiking between the different areas, which is why I gave different recommendations for hotels depending on which way you go up the mountain.
