Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We were less interested in the shops but more the old architecture and narrow alleys that make for great photo ops. Came once in evening and once during the day and while there are a couple of very "commercialized" streets, overall a great way to spend the afternoon. We also took a break in one of the cafes and great way to spend an afternoon.

This is an ancient street, lots food n shops, buildings are old, some lifted the faces, and some just did some minor decor, but can’t escape the old look, you can still find lots old pieces! Try the food, snacks, haha....dates you!
Especially the hairy tofu......

There nothing much on this street. More like a touristy street. Most of the shops sell the same products... tea, handicrafts and souvenir items. I also don’t find anything special about this “ancient” street.

Think this place is overrated..basically it is a shopping street for tourists to buy souvenirs and local snacks, etc.. most stalls sell pretty much the same things..Personally I didn’t find it too interesting tho..

We were brought here, by our Guide Louise Zhang, for a stroll and sightsee. Instead we found traditional Chinese calligraphy tools- Chinese writing brushes, ink sticks and ink wells. Coloured ink sticks are also available. Learned a lot about brush construction and what to look for. No idea how expensive good ink sticks are - my last purchase was in 1963 from the local stationary shop in Johor Baru, Malaysia! At our request and not as part of the walk, Louise took us to a shop that sold good quality stone seals. I had seals made for my three children. Had to wait overnight but Louise brought the finished products to our hotel next morning. The carving is as good as ones done by craftsmen in Singapore (craft shops, not street side vendors). Very happy with the stones as well, semi translucent and peach in colour. Very enjoyable ramble.

Our lovely guide Echo took us late afternoon to this old street. Lots of interesting shops and restaurants but quite crowded. Worth a look though.

A long stretch of pretty shophouses selling sweets, local snacks, silver ,handicrafts and tea .Interesting looking at how sesame crisps are made. Stall owners are more than happy for you to sample their products. We spent about an hour and a half strolling along this street and enjoying the Anhui style architecture too.

Beautiful little place for a quick stopover. We spent the night here to break up the journey from Beijing to Huangshan.

Go through this unique ancient street was quite interesting but the shops not offered any special things. The people are nice. However, the part of modern shops was very ordinary, but the ancient one was way more interesting. Still must visit but do not expect more.
