Most agencies offer this tour at somewhere around 50,000-60,000 CLP. The standard of the service varies greatly so choose the agency wisely! I booked with Desert Adventures and had a good experience here. The scenery and landscapes were incredible and the day was full of...More

Salar de Tara is one of those must-see places in San Pedro de Atacama. However, it is also a bit further away and only accessible by 4x4. Most operators only go there during the weekend. That said, go! It is a full day adventure with...More

Fantastic rock formations spectacular scenery amazing rainbow effect and we even had a snow storm in the Atacama. An amazing day and few tourists. Quite a long journey to get there but loved it.

Salad de tara is not so special. There arent much interesting to see. Just the desert. When you go to such altitude you want to see something special. But i would not recommend it. Better go to geysers, nicer nature + beautiful lagoon.

The highest altitude we had on this trip was 4833m, every little step can be exhausting, my daughter had bad headache all day. There are many tours offered from SPdA but going there with a 4x4 (two wheel drive also is possible) was spectacular. It...More

We went to Salar de Tara with On Safari in a 4x4 Toyota. You definitely need a 4x4 to do this trip! Most of it is off road and some of the more interesting spots can be rough to get to. There are fascinating rock...More

Impossible not to visit. Due to the high altitude leave to go when you are already acclimatised to the high leves at least after being two days in the city.

Definitely one of the best tours in San Pedro (I couldn't choose the best one). I was there July 2016, during a rare event of snow in the Puna Atacameña. Our bus got stuck in the snow (there are no roads leading there, one simply...More

It is a long rugged drive from San Pedro de Atacama, but well worth it. If you do not have a local guide, I recommend hiring one to explain the geology and the wildlife. Recommend allotting at least 2 hrs to appreciate the flamingoes and...More

It was a highlight of our 4 day visit to the region. From San Pedro it's about 1.5 hr drive. Once you get off paved road ride is very rough - maybe you can skip massage that night - but the view of the surrounding...More

Is the scenery in Salar de Tara and Salar de Uyuni (Bolivia) similar? If I am already doing Salar de Uyuni, is it worth doing Salar de Tara?

We did both locations / tours within the same year. The landscaping, the wildlife, the atmosphere is completely different. The Salar de Uyuni is a wide flat salt lake with nothing else than salt, salt, salt, a nice island... More

Do most of the tour operators run trips to Salary de Tara every day or is this a trip that needs to be reserved in advance. Are any of the operators known for running higher quality tours here?

Like the answer below: most of them has this programme, but not every single day. Also, vans (which are typical) have limited seats! My view is that it is a must, because the more complex, a kind of all in one (except the... More

Its lots of driving so it can be a long (but very entertaining ) day. Very little walking involved - its more a wander than a walk! I completely recommend it and the places you go to are jaw dropping. Enjoy!
