I visited the Salar de Tara with Cosmo Andino tour agency and had a fabulous time. Their driver is a professional mountain climber and the guide is very experienced with tons of knowledge. The sights are amazing. It is so high in elevation I had...More

This is one of those marginal places in the world. Photos do not capture the beauty and peacefulness of the Salar de Tara. It is best to leave this for your last day in Atacama, the mountain passes are close to 5000 meters so one...More

The Salar de Tara was the highlight of my week in San Pedro de Atacama. This full day trip was outstanding! It's a bit off-the-beaten track and not all tours go there. I went with Cosmo Andino (excellent guide Pablo) and was blown away! It...More

Worth Visiting to see the amazing views and walk through a small/big part (depending on time you have) of the Salar. Take a hat and sunglasses and be prepared for sudden wind-storm that can blow lots of sand around you.

The entire way of Paso de Jama is fascinating from the beginning when you leave San Pedro. This street is completely paved until you need to leave the street to reach the Salar de Tara. As soon as you leave the street a 4x4 vehicle...More

This is one of the coolest places to enjoy nature around the Atacama. You drive in the desert, not really knowing where exactly, but then you start seeing the rock formations taking shape, the salt plain, animal, birds and no one else in sight. Beautiful...More

Really crazy terrain. PIctures do not do this justice, you just have to see it in person! You could probably bike here from San Pedro De Atacama, but I really enjoyed the commentary from our guide to help us KNOW and understand what we are...More

It is a long drive from San Pedro. We went over a pass at 4900 m / 16,000 ft; one person in our group got altitude sickness. The lava formations sticking up out of the ground are interesting. There is much driving on dirt "roads",...More

We did both locations / tours within the same year. The landscaping, the wildlife, the atmosphere is completely different. The Salar de Uyuni is a wide flat salt lake with nothing else than salt, salt, salt, a nice island... More

Its lots of driving so it can be a long (but very entertaining ) day. Very little walking involved - its more a wander than a walk! I completely recommend it and the places you go to are jaw dropping. Enjoy!
