We hired bikes in San Pedro (17,000 pesos for a full day) and cycled to the Valle de la Luna. It took us about 30 minutes to get to the ticket office, where they gave us a map and explanation of the main sights. The...More

Take a walk along the paths to get to a peak and have great views of surrounding mountains. Also see the 3 Marys rocks. See inside a cave in the gypsum rock formation. Beyond that it’s just another barren desert in my opinion.

Visited Valle de la Luna with Terra tourism agency which provided a large bus due to the popularity of the site. Beautiful place to visit and Ana was a great tour guide.

Beautiful - I loved the caves. Our guide was amazing and was a geologist, she truely had a passion for the area. We watched the sunset, it was great, the Andies goa purple colour just after sunset. It’s worth doing.

What an amazing place. My husband and I rented a car and it was very nice to visit the valley around midday and avoir the sunset crowd. We were litterally the only two visitors! Very easy to get there, offline google maps work perfectly, there...More

Incredibly interesting landscape - like the surface of the moon. volcanoes all around, salt and gypsum everywhere. Nice easy trek of an incredible (almost Mad Max-like) environment. Lots of fun, lots to learn about the indigenous people, the Incas, the Spanish.

We went to Valle de La Luna with a tour because we were too lazy to go by bike and also it was just too hot that day - I guess most days would be like that. You can easily just rent a bike and...More

This is a must see location. To see scenery carved by sand, water and the elements that has not been impacted by tourists wandering all over it is a rare experience. The sand dunes and rock faces are footprint free! Depending on the guide company,...More

Hi, Yes, you can drive into both Valle de la Luna and Valle de la Muerte. I went with a tour (mini-bus), but saw lots of cars driving in. There are parking areas. You can hike for as long as you want. The hike I took in... More

Katherine, I was driving a rental car, so I did not take any tour. Anyway I would definetly reccommend being there during the sunset. I´d plan arriving there in the afternoon around 3:00PM should be fine.

There are no hotels inside the Valley itself, but rather they are all based in San Pedro Atacama which is a 5 minutes drive away.
