Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This church is the main historical heritage site of the town of Socaire. It features works from the colonial period and it’s bell tower is made of edged stone. The church was not open, when my family visited recently, but it was a good experience to view it from the outside. One can appreciate the terraced farms in the close vicinity from the church campus. Certainly worth a stop when en route from San Pedro De Atacama to Laguna Miscanti and Laguna Miniques.

Little old church that has been rebuilt many times - after floods etc. the front door was locked the day we visited. The area around the church was a good example of local agricultural practices wit lots of terraces and waterways.

Very simple architecture, with a small bell tower. It was closed when we passed by. Worth some minute stop along the way

An interesting church definetely worth visiting in the village of Socaire, located by the roadside. Simplicity makes this place interesting and great.

If you are in Socaire, this church is worth a short visit. It is typical of the architecture of the area, and the visit will not take long, There usually is a lady outside the church selling homemade items.

What a lovely place to visit. A very friendly and welcoming village with a tiny 300 year old church of St Barbara overlooking the village. So peaceful.

Whilst on one of the Atacama trips, our tour guide stopped by the roadside and told us about this church and the village; unfortunately he didn't take us down to the church so we didn't see inside.

On outside viewing I can only rate it an average attraction. Well maintained building and interesting in that the tower and hall are not attached. Obviously a good precaution in an earthquake zone.

Judging by other reviews, if your trip stops here, make sure the tour guide takes you inside.

The adobe construction is what first catches your eye, then the separate bell tower, likely an acknowledgment to the power of earthquakes. The main portion has a nice, wooden ceiling with beams. The altar is rather simple but elegant, given the remoteness of the area. The oldest portion of the church is through a door on the right. It is situated on the edge of town and photographs well from above.
