I really recommend renting a car and driving to the Cajón del Maipo area, its a really peaceful and rural area, the views in the road are really nice. The embalse is beautiful but I recommend to go during winter to see the mountains full...More

This place has one of the most beautiful views I've ever seen! You can see the mountains, the clear water and feel a peace of mind. The road to get there is not easy, and has a ground road for a few km before getting...More

I wish someone had mentioned before I drove here how dangerous the road is. It is literally a one car road that has cars coming both ways so you must be alert, not only that it is a mountain edge so if anything was to...More

The lake and it’s environs are spectacular: unique. A beautiful glacier torquoise blue waters with towering mountains surrounding it and a spreading valley at the eastern end with mountains and glaciers reaching nearly 17,000 feet. But the ascent is not for the faint of heart....More

We had a hire car and did this and Banos Colinas in the same day. The water is a lovely blue and the view is stunning but It's a 1 hour drive from San Jose and It's missable.

We decided to go there relatively late and delayed even more to reach the Embalse because of a fire that made us take a very long detour (around 15km extra) and the road was harsh on the car we had rented, but still, the moment...More

About 1h and a half outside Santiago is the beautiful region of Cajon del Maipo. We chose a half-day trip to visit Embalse el Yeso. The surroundings are very beautiful and there are lots of outdoor activities available. The Embalse visit is a quick stop...More

What a wonderful place. We did the visit in our own car and even the road has some unpaved kilometers, it’s in really good condition. It takes around 3 hours to get there but you can do a beautiful stop in Cajon Del Maipo area...More

We went to Embalse El Yeso in November when there was still some snow on top of the mountains. It was quite cold and not that easy to get there but with a car and a map, you can find it yourself without having to...More

My wife and I were in a SUV but a car will do just fine. About 70-80 km from Santiago with decent roads. The last 10km or so is gravel and in quite a few places only one vehicle can pass at a time...fellow motorists...More

It would be the end of summer, the beginning of autumn, so the weather would probably be quite nice!
