Excellent place to visit. On the route you must stop to see the Valley of the Condors, the rainbow waterfall, the devil's tooth, as well as the white monks. If you go in winter, bring chains, since the entire road is snowy!... Very good place to go for a weekend from Santiago!!

We found Laguna del Maule when driving from San Rafael to Santiago de Chile. If you came from Argentina you need to cross the border using Paso Pehuenche. The lagoon is beautiful, deserves a stop!.

I recently joined a couple of dozen other geologists for a three-day visit to the spectacular scenery of Laguna del Maule. The lake is ringed by large, rugged lava flows, some exhibiting beautiful outcrops of obsidian (black volcanic glass). The azure water dramatically sets off the tan and brown outlines of the flows, and there are quite a few species of colorful birds flying around.

Although the tourist bureaus won't advertise this, Laguna del Maule is currently experiencing an unusual episode of rapid uplift--over 2 meters in 14 years--which most likely means that a large quantity of molten magma is intruding the rock layers beneath the lake. This *might* mean that a giant eruption is imminent, although there would most likely be considerable warnings for days, weeks, or months before lava actually appeared at the surface. This makes for a dramatic story to tell the folks back home.

There are no services available at the lake, beyond a campsite near the dam. Currently there is a major hydroelectric conduit being built below the dam, which is controversial because the pipe will divert most if not all of the water from the Rio del Maule, causing the ecosystem to be damaged or destroyed.

The night sky away from the lights around the dam is quite amazing.

We had been told this lake has amazing scenery. In fact it is nice enough but not that special. The scenery on the road up from Talca, yes that is amazing, especially the inverted waterfall.
Note you have to go through the Chilean border post to get there by car, for which you need ID and all car documents (our rental car did not have 1 of 4 bits of paper), otherwise you can walk up.
Fun fact, the area is controlled by the Chilean Navy (all the warning signs etc...)

I love the Maule Lagoon you can enjoy this wonderful lake, in the warmer months from December, it is apt to bathe, the children alone in the lower parts of this lake, but it is the perfect panorama to enjoy a day with the family like a picnic, family outing or with friends.

Hello! I went to Termas del médano, you can get there by car or by bus going through the international route Ch-115. You have to take the bus in the bus station of Talca.
I went there in winter (august), so at that time the Laguna del Maule was closed because of the snow on the road. But I could get to the Waterfall that is located like 20 meters high and the weird thing is this waterfall goes up because of the wind. Unfortunately when I went it did not happen. Probably for the season.
The weekend that I spent there I stayed in Termas del médano in a small cabin with a kitchen, bathroom, two beds. Perfect for me and my partner.
In the tourist complex you can enjoy of thermal waters and also natural steambaths, coming from the ground.
I totally recomend San Clemente as the commune and the places that I visited.
You should bring cash with you because once you get in to the mountains there are no ATM. Also the best time to go is Summer (December to February)
Good luck in your trip!

A bit of customs fuss as it's between the two countries. Make sure you have your cars documents. There is a terma half way up which looked good if you are agile. Great restaurant. Wonderful.

Although the location is wrong, this amazing turquoise ice-cold lagoon it's located in Maule Region, to get here you have to drive around 2 hours from Linares or 2 hours 30 minutes from Talca.
Once you get up there you will find this amazing lagoon between the mountains, if you are lucky enough you will find snowy mountains, what makes this place even better.
Normally you can't get to the lagoon in winter because It snows a lot and there is danger of avalanche, anyway lots of people go to enjoy the snow on the sides of the road, however in spring or summer it totally worth it the 2 hours of driving to get to the top,
it is advisable to take some water and food for the day because up there there's nothing else besides nature.
