You can't miss the yellow cathedral

A striking building clad in yellow sheeting of some form. The inside is busy without being gaudy. A few photos of how it was in the old days are interesting

You’ll rarely, if ever, see an entire church done in wood. Usually stone is thought appropriate. Not here in this beautifully done Franciscan mission-turned parish turned cathedral (I think; not sure). The pictures capture elements but the impact of being there, particularly during the day with the sunlight melting in, imparts a warmth and ethereal impression I, for one, didn’t... More

The Iglesias San Francisco dominates the main square Plaza de Armas of Castro. Painted in brilliant yellow and gaudy purple, it is a sensational church, almost Lutheran in style. Due to the salty winds, the repainting is an almost annual necessity. The interior of the church (and, come to that, exterior) is made solely of locally sourced wood, and it... More

Brightly painted on the outside - yellow with violet roof and touches of mauve - and gorgeous wood on the inside. The walls, pillars, ceiling, and altars are all beautifully finished wood. An easy walk uphill from the dock, across from the main square. We found it closed at 1;15, due to open at 4, but filled with a funeral... More

A unique design, with lots of wood, beautiful in the inside. The color on the outside, a bright yellow. Recommended visit.

Not an amazing place, though the architecture out of wood is very detailed. Take into consideration one of the atractions in Chiloe is visiting the Churches. Highly recommended only if you like to see old buildings

The building is lovely, with brightly painted wood and stained glass windows. Some of the surrounding houses are also interesting. Caution when walking to the church from the street. There were many dog droppings on the grass walkway.

Screaming colours outside..(bright yellow and purple now), on the main square of Castro. All wood. Once you walk inside, you feel the warmth of the timber they used. Beautifull with the sunlight shining through the stained windows.
