- Pining_ex_londonerAppleton le Moors, United Kingdom73 contributionsMillions of bats ! An amazing spectacle! There are few places in the world where you can see bats flying out at dusk. This place is accessible, laid back and not overly commercialised. When we went, it was enjoyed by local people as much as visitors. We couldn't stomach a visit to the 'killing caves' nearby, but the bats are more than enough reason to go!Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 13 November 2023
- Fynbos Guest Farm and Animal SanctuaryWolseley, South Africa148 contributionsBat experienceWe went twice. Once ti the busy tourist side and the second time we went to the back section. It's a short but steep climb. You see a different stream of bats. A small group of people. Very very quiet. Highly recommended. Both are unique experiences. The main tourist part is noisy; busy and crowded.Visited November 2023Travelled with familyWritten 23 November 2023
- John S6 contributionsUtterly mesmericWnt to bat cave in Battambang ith Wendy Wu Cambodia Classic tour - my favourite thing of the entire wonderful tour. Seeing 2 million bats streaming out of the beautiful hillside cave lasted over 35 minutes. Utterly mesmeric. An incredible feat of Nature. Cool drinks for sale.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 27 November 2023
- b2runOntario, Canada283 contributionsHard to see if they come out after sunset. This is a huge cave on the cliff face. We sat in chairs waiting for dusk. You were expected to order a drink if you sat an the chairs. When they came, it was pretty dark so it was hard to see anything. The only way we could see them was when we looked at the light-coloured Buddha carved into the cliff face. Still, it was impressive the long stream of bats.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 23 February 2024
- TheLush101Cardiff, United Kingdom2,467 contributionsPhenomenal experience! We were here as part of our visit to the temple (see the separate review). You drive past the big stone carvings of Buddha etc. After our visit to the temple, we came back down and the locals had set out plastic chairs - you pay for a drink (at least $1USD but give some more if you can) from a cooler and then you can sit down. The bats started to emerge just after sunset for us (just before 6pm) and were still flying out 20 minutes later. It was an amazing experience, the way their flight paths slowly meander across the sky and especially with the temple behind you - the moon was just in the right place for some awesome photos. In case you're scared of bats, don't worry - you don't come close to them at all. They're off to get food, so they fly very high above you!Visited December 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 25 May 2024
- Sean LLas Vegas, Nevada78 contributionsI’m Batman!!6.5 million bats leave the cave at sun down. They do however come out and take a hard right. Still an amazing sight though. The fun of this place is the atmosphere while waiting for the bats to emerge. They have chairs and tables set up so you can sit and have a snack or sink a few beers before hand. The chairs are tightly spaced so everyone is talking and swapping conversations. Also the Phnom Sampow Buddhist temple and Killing Cave are close by so there is plenty to do and see. Definitely worth stoping in.Visited September 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 17 September 2024

Fantastic experience! People start to gather about an hour before “takeoff “ with a street festival atmosphere. There are tables, chairs and food and drinks for purchase. Once the bats begin to emerge you are treated to a 15-20 minute experience that is unforgettable.

Located about 15km out of town, here you can see the Killing Cave and the Bat Cave. You need to buy a ticket to see the site. If you are unable to walk up the rather large hill, you can get a ride up the hill for $5USDpp. The Killing Cave has many stairs and is not accessible for anyone with mobility issues or in a wheel chair. There is a lookout at the top of this area with good views of the district. The Bat Cave can be seen from the ground and the parade of bats each night is amazing.

Very particular experience, a cave in the rock located near a sanctuary where it is possible to climb several steps to the top on foot. Around 6pm at sunset, millions and millions of bats come out of the cave together and invade the sky. There are also small bars that offer chairs to enjoy the show

We were amazed by the hundreds of thousands of bats flying out of the cave at around 5:30pm in the evening. They lasted for about an hour and it was incredible to watch it unfold.
We took a tuktuk from town hired through our hotel ($25.00 for a day tour) and this was our last stop. We sat on the hillside and watched them pour into the sky.
Absolutely remarkable and a must do if in Battambang. I would even say visit Battambang purely for this sight!

First off ditch sitting with all the foreigners who can’t use all those extra calories they carry around with them on there bellies. Take a little journey around to the other side of the mountain and catch the Bat exodus during sunset. It’s not hard to find. Ask the locals it a Tuk Tuk driver. You cling up the side of the mountain a bit. Even have a few kids already set up ready to sell you water or beer. Really strange but beautiful. It’s that village life and people doing what they need to do to survive. Anyways, catch the bats and the sunset at the same time. Cheers

Our guide took us to the back of the cave where you can see them against the sunset. You can watch them longer but it is a bit difficult to climb up and down (especially in the dark)--also it might be more comfortable at some of the tables at the front of the cave. Amazing sight.

Our hotel booked us a tut tut to take us to the Bat Caves. We went a little earlier and climbed to the top of the mountain. It was quite a walk but we enjoyed it. Our driver then took us to a bat cave that was a little away from the stalls and shops. We climbed up a little hill and watched the sun setting before the bats came out. The bats themselves were amazing and are defiantly one of the natural wonders of the world. I would recommend this to anyone who is travelling to Cambodia.

Was a bit disappointed when I arrived as it is not very scenic. The cliff/cave is quite ugly and they have put a lot of tables and chairs along the road for tourists.
However, when the bats come out it is truly spectacular. Milllions of tiny bats come out over 20-30 minutes for the night hunt. Watch out for the pee if they fly above you

How far is Battambang Bat Caves from Carlsbad Cavers?
Written 6 January 2023
Any idea how much a private taxi would be from siem reap to the caves and back? (Day trip) Thanks!
Written 17 August 2019
Hi there. We paid $60 for a taxi from Battambang to Phnom Penh- one way. From Siem Reap to Battambang and back should be around 80/90$ I’d imagine. We booked through the hotel so they bump it up a bit. It might be cheaper also.

What address do we enter to drive to these caves via bike? And also what is the name of this bar people have mentioned where you can watch on the roof?? Thanks! :)
Written 18 June 2019
I don't know the specific address. But what I can recommend is to just book a tricycle, and ask for the more quiet area to watch the bats. Our driver dropped us off near a hill, and this place was less crowded that the bar you mentioned. On that hill, some locals try to sell you drinks. Have fun, it's awesome!
Written 18 June 2019
No entry fee, although you’ll want to sit down in one of the many bars that occupy the street as there’s no exact time the bats will appear and it can take about 45 minutes for them all to leave. So the cost of a drink is about all you’ll have to pay to see the bats from a comfortable place.
The mountain the bat cave is located on does also have a killing cave and a temple that’s worth a visit, around $2 to see both. Definitely worth doing if you get there an hour or two before the bats are due to appear but you don’t need to do that to see the bats. Hope this helps.

I think we paid about 12 US. But we had the driver for the whole afternoon. He took us to the big Colonial Building and then the “Ancient House” both of which we walked through.
He stopped at a small roadside stand and bought himself a roasted rat. (Yes, rat)
He brought us to the mountain and waited while climbed up and saw the view and killing caves area and then back down for the bat spectacle.

Hi guys ! I’m not staying in Battambang ! But is it possible to visit the caves and return to my hotel on the same day from Phnom Penh ???
Written 25 December 2017
Hi great to hear from you so if you want to see the bat cave you can’t turn back to Phnom Penh on the same day because bats will get from the cave about 6pm and the other option you can take night bus back to Phnom Penh .Thanks
