You must take a boat trip up or down the Ayeyarwaddy river as the sights that you see, the villages that you are able to visit, the sunsets and sunrises are just something else. You can travel in luxury or just reasonable travel but just do it.

I recently took an over night ferry ride from Mandalay to Bagan. The dock to get onto the ship was exciting enough. The trip on the Irrawaddy Princess 2 was enjoyable and relaxing with food and drinks served on board. The accommodation was small but functional and clean. A highly enjoyable trip.

We decided to do the trip to Mingun on a private boat rather than the local ferry as we had time restrictions and we wanted to see Mingun beftoe it got to hot. Drove to the river from our hotel and went over the levee bank to the river edge. Ours boat was the sixth from the shore. It was... More

What a wonderful way to see Mandalay from a different perspective. The cruise is roughly an hour on smooth river waters. There are small villages that dot the shoreline. The pagodas on the opposite end of the ride are well worth the visit.

We were a group of 40 people, we hired two boats to go to Mingun from Mandalay and we came back to Mandalay after about 2 hours. It is indeed a very nice experience to cruise on the Irrawaddi river ( also spelt as Ayeyarwaddy). Woth the time and money. Just that the docking of these boats on the banks... More

We went on a ride from Mandalay to Minghun. It was about an hour long. The river was very shallow so boats can't go too fast. It's a nice cruise

We did the boat from Mandalay to Bagan and the day on the river was fun. The Malikha Cruise people were well organized and ht estate friendly. My only complaint is that they charge C1000 for water on the boat when it is C400 everywhere else. Ripping off a captive group of people is not so cool guys, I understand... More

Sit back and soak up the atmosphere and watch the daily life along the river. The boats are not the most comfortable but provide a relaxing trip that is not as dusty as gravel roads where all Chinese goods are transported from the border. Do not expect culinary experiences along the way
