I traveled with a group from our church on a mission trip. We stayed a local volunteer helping coordinate our trip. On a free day we visited the market. The area is amazing. We saw huge quantities of fresh food. Clothes and souvenirs are sold....More

My wife is from Aracaju and it's a good new place to tour and stay. There are open air markets to buy fresh fruits and veggies and crafts of the local craftsmen. The fruits are not to be missed: papaya, mango, banana (varieties), Ascerola cherries,...More

Its interesting to go and visit once you are near but you wont miss anything special if you dont. The palace of the governour is the most interesting thing you can do

The historical center has very little to see, because the main historical cities of Sergipe are located about 40 km outside Aracaju. If you want to see historical sites go to São Cristovao.

Stunning embroidered clothes in the shops of Centro de Turismo, very close to the Cathedral. Also, the handicraft museum. Spent a lovely time there, 5 min walking to the Municipal market, another place you can't miss.

The historical district is a limited number of structures almost overun by infills. Having seen 80 % of Portugal, the examples are worth the walk. The market is huge but a challenge and do not go alone.

Be a smart gringo. Travel in a group or pairs. Do not show a lot of money, jewelry or watches. This is worth a visit but be careful. It is a dangerous area.
