About
Occupying the historic headquarters of Brazil's largest bank, the CCBB features an ever-changing program of art exhibitions, photography, theater, documentaries and feature films, and other engaging cultural manifestations. The building itself is a Baroque jewel, situated in the old financial district of São Paulo, and avant-garde events, such as a recent blaxploitation film retrospective, keep the CCBB on every hip Paulistano's cultural agenda.

Neighbourhood:
Sé, which derives its name from Sé Square, is a central neighbourhood in historic São Paulo. Close by, the Law School, the Museum of the Court of Justice and the Metropolitan Cathedral offer inspiring architecture. If you are looking for cultural activities, head to Caixa Cultural and check the schedule. In the area there is a popular pedestrian street called “Rua Direita”, one of the first streets in the region, which today marks the crowded perimeter. Sé is a great area to explore during daytime, but use caution if visiting alone at night.
How to get there
  • Sé • 4 min walk

GReat historical building with the best exhibitions in Sao Paulo. Sometimes you may face a huge line, but mostly if you wait to see the opening or the last week of exhibitions. Brazilians tend to leave it to the last minute.

This place is nice for its arquitecture, exibitions, music, theatre and a whole range of cultural initiatives. Also, there is a nice and cozy coffee shop with specialty coffee and sweets. It is beautiful outside and inside and it is worth a visit.

This cultural centre in the old city centre of São Paulo is a real archictetural gem. I´ve been there twice, and this time to see the Paul Klee´s exhibition. It was a very well organized exhibition with the material from the artist´s museum in Berna. In general this centre offers exhibitions and movies for free and it is an amazing opportunity to know works from international artists.

As soon as you walk into CCBB, you think you are in Gringotts because of the façade, and indeed it used to be a branch of the Brazilian bank (still running but not in this location, although you find its ATM inside). The rooms are small but enough to enter you into the atmosphere of the current exhibit. You will be amazed by the architecture and the art in there.

In the Centro Velho there are old buildings that tell their story. It is possible to visit downtown with a free guided tour also.

When friends come from abroad, I enjoy showing them the oldest part of the city. In this area you can find the CCBB (Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil). The building itself is worth the visit. But when there are exibirions it is even better. The best ones were Picasso and Impressionists, which were held in the last years. A good way to arrive is through São Bento subway, so that you can also visit the church and buy the special bread monks produce

Located downtown in the historic heart of Sao Paulo, CCBB is an interesting 1901 building that was completely renovated. The original features have been restored, keeping the lines that make it one of the most significant examples of early century architecture.
Check exhibits agenda and don't miss a chance to visit this cultural center with other nice and historical spots around, Praça da Sé Cathedral, Mosteiro Sao Bento, Patio do Colegio, Martinelli Building, among others
