Neighbourhood: Sé
Sé, which derives its name from Sé Square, is a central neighbourhood in historic São Paulo. Close by, the Law School, the Museum of the Court of Justice and the Metropolitan Cathedral offer inspiring architecture. If you are looking for cultural activities, head to Caixa Cultural and check the schedule. In the area there is a popular pedestrian street called “Rua Direita”, one of the first streets in the region, which today marks the crowded perimeter. Sé is a great area to explore during daytime, but use caution if visiting alone at night.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

It is a big shopping district. Lots of brand name stuff, I went there to buy souveniers, though there wasn't too many places to buy them here, Things were cheaper then buying it at regular malls.
Be careful, it is always crowed and they look for tourists that arent very secure. Theft is a problem. Don't carry a big bag or backpack, always carry your bag in front and keep a hand on it at all times. Never take out more money than necessary to purchase something. People are always on the lookout of people waving around money. Common sence stuff really. I have been there twice and haven't had anything stolen. But it does happen so be careful.
The shop assistants are very friendly and helpful, they will try to keep selling you things. Be polite but firm.
Wear comfortable shoes to walk around. There are various levels and there are not always elevators or escelators available. Toilets aren't always great either.
Have a great time!! Be safe!
Also, you will have to pay for parking

Make sure you have a local with you when you come here otherwise you may look out of place. Also, get ready for the crowds (as in feeling as if there are thousands of people surrounding you). Daytime ONLY.
This street is famous nationwide for its bulk/retail cheap sales. Presentation may be lousy at all times, but that does not equal bad quality. The same products you will find in a mall (after you conveniently park your car, talk to a good looking salesperson and get your goods wrapped in a nice box) will be sold here at a 75% cheaper price.
Again, this is a place for some locals (not all locals will face this craziness!), and you must speak Portuguese. Street parking is close to impossible and paid parking is inconvenient, but available in the area. You can also go by subway (Sao Bento Station).
You will find novelty items, items for the house in general, toys, presents, small electronics. You can always drive close to this area, just to see how it looks like. And maybe go to the central market neaby and visit it.
Again, and again: this is not for the blue-eyed pale blond adventurous foreigner on their own, but if you know someone local, it will be unique.

Yes, it is crowded and hot, but the '25' as fondly know by Brazilians is still a great place to shop. Best to arrive before the shops open (most at 9 AM) and go for it! A good store is Armarinhos Fernando (3 stores in this street), there you will find anything at reasonable prices. If you are after souvenirs, walk to the back streets, near the flower shops. Quite good deals there. As said before, be careful with your belongings and aware of your surroundings. I've noticed an increased police presence there over the years, which makes you feel safer. Best to avoid peak times such as Carnival, Christmas, school holidays, etc if you don't like crowds. It is a street that shows what Sao Paulo is about: a multicultural crowded city that is not afraid to embrace its contradictions. Recommended.

I like going there. Everything is cheap and you can find gifts for everybody, however beware that not everything is authentic. You can find everything from electronics to clothes, toys, kitchen supplies, ornaments, souvenirs, and you can also find many sorts of handcrafting supplies such as knitting, crochet, painting etc. There may be some pickpockets, so take care of your belongings!

The shoping street is a little edgy, although on my last visit (yesterday) there were lots and lots of police around. Its very close the Mercado Municipal, and has enormous number of shops with bargain prices. Its not Oxford Street, but is bustling with sales, reduced priced goods and perhaps not always authentic stuff. But if you are looking for a bargain and have an eye for a sale, it is worth a visit.

Hang on to your hand-bag and join the giant crowd of bargain hunters. You will find stuff here that isn't available in smaller Brazilian towns. I could have spent an entire day! Dress light- the street is hot and stores are too!

If you're looking for nothing specific, you'll probably find it here. It seems that there are a ton of stores that carry the same items and a lot of junk. I was here during Carnaval and many of the shops here had Carnaval items for sale, most of them have the same items and if you shop carefully you can save a lot of money if you went to the correct shop. A lot of imported junk, but if you look carefully through the stores you can find some hidden gems.
Everybody tells you to be careful of pickpockets and thieves and I think that made me a little nervous and every time I was bumped I was worried. Nothing happened but I think it made me a little over cautious. Not that that it's a bad thing.
There are a lot of people there so of course you'll have to watch yourself but it's not a scary area. Just a lot of people. I would just say don't take a lot of money, don't take a lot of credit cards, leave your passport at home. And make sure your items are secure.
I took the metro there and from where I was staying it was a long ride, very packed, with two transfers but only about $1.50 US to get there. I took an Uber back to my hotel and that cost me about $8.00 US and was much more relaxing.

We made sure that we only had 1 credit card and our money was actually in a soft purse, on thin twine round my neck and put down my bra. Not conventional but as I carried a zip shopping bag over my shoulder, nobody knew it was there, and we felt safe.
Bought sunglasses, pumps, hats, earrings, bags and belts all very cheap and we did haggle for a better deal.
Yes it is very big,and busy but if you take care of your belongings you can relax and enjoy this unusual place.

its very old and traditional market street at sao paulo. , where you will find everything you want for a good price and maybe not for so good quality, but it was a great experience. Be aware of your bag and avoid using you mobile. Its safe, but its better to avoid some situations. Good to take a walk and than go to mercado municipal.Safe, no problems, limited english skills by the locals. However, like all vendors, if you are interested in buying something, they will find someone who speaks your language. Very crowded on Saturday. Elbow to elbow, but has everything you can imagine. Lots of places to eat also, but also crowded.typical mix of smells, shouts of advertisement and the lazy business of such markets. Jewellery, christmas decoration, cheap garments but also all kinds of daily supplies are available among other things.
