This small memorial was where the dictatorship imprisoned and tortured dissidents. The information is well-presented. The small area behind the cells where the prisoners were allowed 1 hour of exercise per week puts the horror of this place in perspective.

I really like this museum and also my students when I took them there to know a little bit more about their own history. I believe you should never forget this moment in our lives.

A small memorial about the hard times of brazilian dictatorship. This building was actually used as prison. It's a hard and painful experience, but as any memorial, really important to remember those facts so it cannot happen again. It's not a typical tourist attraction but I would definitely recommend it.

I'm a local, and I've just arrived from a trip through Chile and Argentina, where I could realize how the human rights violation issue in military government times is important in these countries. As other Latin American countries, Brazil has also wounds from these times. The part I liked most was a timeline of Brazil's republican period, where historical facts,... More

I had a better understanding of Brazils history after leaving this museum. It gives a good overview of the resistance and repression of political movements and ethnic groups in Brazil from the end of the 19th century until now, of course focusing on the period of the dictatorship. Visitors have the chance to see three prisons where political prisoners were... More

It was a little bit difficult to find the museum, but it was a remarkable visit. There they have the cells where people used to be tortured or remained during dictatorial government in Brazil. Few brasilians know this memorial, but should know! Although it´s a very simple and small memorial it´s very emotional, because you can see writings on the... More

When I got there, there was a exhibition going on which had many paintings done by people that had been held prisioners during Brazil's dictatorship times. It was one of most impressive things I've seen. Besides that, the building in which the museum is located is the same where one of the prisons of that time was maintained. There is... More

Now part of the International Sites of Conscience, important museum to visit to learn about the repression that took place under the recent dictatorship in Brazil. Interesting site, in the old police building.
