Address
Neighbourhood: Ipiranga
Named after the Ipiranga River, this region is home to Independence Park, where it’s said Brazilian Independence was proclaimed. Its gardens and the tree-lined main street offer visitors a gracious view. The neighbourhood also hosts assorted museums and has a strong local feel. Ipiranga is a calm area, with a variety of good dining places and its own Municipal Market, which features flowers, meat, vegetables, fruits and some special events. Outside the main subway stations you can experience the busy streets, but you just need to walk a few blocks to get back the residential serenity of the area.

Nice museum that gives a good flavor of Brazilian history. 1.5 hours is sufficient to visit the museum and the grounds including the Independence monument. Must see the Independence room in the museum. Great paintings. Top floor affords a magnificent view.

Judging by the information in other reviews, I'm assuming that this is related to the Paulista museum as I couldn't see any other museum when there.
This museum is currently closed for renovations, but the whole area is stunning and worth visiting even without the museum.

The park is nice but sad to see that the building since years are being renovated. The fountains are not working and no options to cafes and restaurants. Nice to see the people enjoying the park skating, but actually is the only activity possible!

Good museum, with elegant garden, but a bit poorly maintained. Good exhibits about the history of Brazil.

Museum in question of restoration was impeccable and beautiful. But stop there. The collection that told and was part of the history of our monarchy disappeared. Many empty rooms with meaningless themes about worker exploitation or exalting ONLY Indians. They talk about bandeirantes in a subtly prejorative way and in the end, an illustration in bad taste with a statue of Borba Gato thrown in a garbage dumpster. And of course, I wasn't surprised that the content was so poor due to USP's management. Wherever they touch, everything turns to trash. Total disappointment!

Ideological activism damaged the museum. A museum is a place of history, and history must be told as it happened, regardless of whether you agree with it or not. They demonized the figure of the bandeirantes, they filled the museum with things that have nothing to do with Brazilian Independence. There's even a pair of earrings from the 2000s in one of the rooms... Steam iron? WTF? The so-called "counterpoints" spread throughout the exhibitions are a real joke. The scolding of some left-handed USP sealer. Borba Cat upside down in a trash can? These people are smoking a lot of m@conh⁴, and this is affecting their neurons, it's not possible!

Let's start with the good: the external gardens were beautiful, the painting was excellent and the access was very organized. Now, what's bad: if you visited the museum before the renovation, prepare yourself for deep disappointment: where are the jewels, where are the historical collections, where are Brazil's heritage? What remains is a shocking content, the comments from USP's "historians" spread throughout all the pieces are a left-wing work, wanting to rewrite history, trying to destroy Brazil's trailblazers, praising trade unionism, criticizing the businessman (for them an exploiter). ) and the white man (for them an enslaver). The influence of European and Japanese immigration on the development of Brazil, forget it. Sad end to a museum that was once a rare gem. Get ready to see things that have nothing to do with Brazil's independence.

Those who knew the museum before the renovation and are going to visit it now in the hope of seeing all the collections there are frustrated. I was super excited and I was really disappointed.
There are no more beds, carriages, clothes... there are now many things that have nothing to do with Brazil's independence.
They removed most of the very rich collection it had. Very sad!
For those who never visited before the renovation, you may find it interesting. For those who already knew him before, it is frustrating.

12/08/23 - We went to review it after the renovation, in terms of the building's construction, including new technologies, (escalator, braille. Fire equipment, etc.) it was fantastic. Now in relation to the historical collection, it's only worth it for the paintings and sculptures, the rest of the collection I don't know where it ended up. Unique rooms with household items from the 40s, 50s and 60s.
There is a room showing the “evolution” of the iron, very relevant to the history of our independence. Do not you think ??
To conclude, the renovation of the gardens and the fountains were also excellent.

I visited the museum before the renovation and when I came back I saw that it had been “plucked”. They took away almost everything that was there. He lost his identity. Where were the historical pieces that existed there taken? Around sixty to seventy percent of the original collection disappeared

Qual tempo estimado para a visita interna e externa do museu?
Written 28 April 2024
