INTERESTING MUSEUM
Dec. 2019
This museum is housed in a quite impressive building, in the past apparently part of the port fortification defences, and contains a large number of interesting exhibits, including the skeleton of a whale. As we discovered in many museums in Brazil, one downside is that descriptions are all written only in Portugese, a distinct disadvantage for any tourist that is not familiar with that language.

First a naval college now a fisheries museum.
Jul. 2019 • Family
The fishing museum stands almost on top of the first fort built in Santos, fort Augusto in 1714.
Later it became a maritime mariner college, a natural museum and now a fishing museum.
It used to be free but that changed R$ 5.00 for a ticket, R$ 2,50 for students and free for under the age of 6 and over the age of 60. All information in the museum is in Portuguese. There is a small corner on the ground floor where small kids can sit and draw. At the end of the tour through the museum there is an activity centre for the bit larger kids mimicking a sailing vessel with ladders, ropes ect. , loads of fun.
First floor houses a huge skeleton of a whale. Approx. 25m and used to weigh app. 70 ton. Further nice collection of shells and an enormous collection of bottles housing the sand of all the Brazilian beaches.
Sharks, fishes etc. All very educational. Nice place for a rainy day to.

Pesca
Feb. 2019 • Solo
The museo da Pesca is located in a nice large building. Looks colonial to me. Contents are comparable to the nearby museo do mar. With stuffed fish, fish fossils. Highlight is the huge manta ray at the entrance. In addition, there are displays of shells, rocks from all over the world, sand from Brazilian beaches, petrol, and some displays of fishing equipment. They seem to have some spare space that they filled up to look like parts of a ship.

Fascinating!
Jan. 2015 • Friends
I discovered many different marine species at this museum. This included new species that were found by the local fishermen only at the shores of Santos who had donated the discoveries to educate the public about marine creatures. Most of the sea creatures on display were exclusive to South America. Information about the sea creatures from the Amazon and etc. The museum not only included marine life, it also had collections of sand and sea shells from all around Brazil and parts of South America. This was quite interesting to see the comparisons of the North and South, where there were differences in colour and thickness. The museum also had a huge display of the whale hovering on one of the ceilings, it was a amazing. Worth recommending to visit and educate yourselves!
