Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is a rather small place but nevertheless of utmost importance as these are the remains of the cemetery of the slaves arriving in Rio de Janeiro. There are English translations for the most important facts. The family which discovered this is working here without governmental help, just bu donations so make sure to support. We are glad we made it here, just be aware that it is a small place! 30 min. Max

I stumbled upon this gem when I was doing research on museums dedicated to the Africans who were viciously and violently brought to brazil against their well. Given that you cannot fully understand Brazilian history without understanding their long history with slavery, I thought there would be numerous museums dedicated to this subject. However, as I started to plan my itinerary, I realized that I was sorely mistaken. It wasn't until an hour into my research did I find this gem. The IPN Museum tells the often forgotten story of slavery....a story that the government would most want to forget.
It starts with an informational video that cannot be missed and then a tour of the mass graves of the slaves who were not given the decency of a proper resting place.
At the end, I asked the woman who showed us in about the homeowners' who selflessly donated the home upon discovering the graves and it turned out that she was their daughter! Through my tears, I thanked her for the important work they are doing. It really affirmed my belief that one person (or one family in this case) can make a difference.
From what I understand, they do not get government funding and lack the resources to market the museum to a mass audience. They rely on word of mouth so please tell everyone you know to visit AND then write a review on google and/or tripadvisor. No matter your race, nationality or heritage, this museum should not be missed.

This is a small museum highlighting Brazil’s history of slavery. This is basically the sight of a mass grave - it is intensely sad and also an important place of remembrance. The panels have recently been totally redone and all the information is in English. I highly recommend taking time to visit this place.

This place is incredible. Established by a man and his wife who were renovating their home and discovered a slave burial ground. There was a live excavation taking place while we were there... History is being discovered while you're there. The place has become a force fir good, not only telling the story but in giving G young people a space for a creative voice xxx

The African slavery´s holocaust the happened in Brazil can’t be forgotten. Here the slaves that arrived died in Rio de Janeiro Bay or that died just before the market was barried here. Thereis a lot of information about thie terrible time. I will take not much of your time visitng but it can make you think about for several years.
