This quaint bohemian neighborhood of Rio with colonial buildings and cobblestone streets steep on a hillside overlooking the city is earning the interest of tourists wishing to see an alternate Rio away from the beach scene. Art galleries and restaurants add to the local culture of Santa Teresa.

I would very much recommend you to have a long walk through the streets of this neighbourhood. Enjoy all the scenery, the colors, the views from the top and much more. A place to go during the daytime.

I really enjoyed our visit to Santa Teresa. The colors are amazing, it is quiet, peaceful but the art makes large noises.

Stayed here for a weekend and we loved it, artisans, good restaurants, and reasonably priced, many nice pousadas close to The sambodrome etc.

We stayed at the nice and affordable Mama shelter hotel. Nice bars and restaurants were in walking distance. We never used a but and reached all interesting locations by foot. We always felt very safe. Lot of bars have a life music in the evening's.

This is really a nice district with great views, nice houses and really cozy bars and restaurant. It was on of our favorite parts of rio (we saw: ipanem, leblon, centro, copacabana)

We live close to Shoreditch in east London - that's up and coming ! Santa Theresa is dreadful - full of semi derelict buildings covered in verbal graffiti . We felt uneasy walking around during the day and certainly would not return in the dark...More

This is a nice neighborhood to spend an hour or so, but not much to look at other than graffiti marred buildings and a few artisan shops. The cobblestones streets lend an old world charm, but as others have pointed out, it is surrounded by...More

Santa Teresa
Santa Teresa is a bohemian enclave hosting many local
artists’ studios. The narrow, winding streets of this
neighbourhood were revitalised years ago, and visitors
can now stroll through this area to view magnificent
mansions dating back to the late 19th and early 20th
century. A highlight not miss: Museu Chacará do Céu, a
former mansion turned museum which houses works by
prominent Brazilian modern artists.
