This is the first hill up on the way to Rio's famous Sugar Loaf. It offers it's own marvelous view from the top (215 meters) but its base is also a good place for hiking.

Morro da Urca is composed by two hills, one is not so high and closer to the land and the second one is really high and closer to the ocean. You can reach the top of the first hill by car cable or trekking, which is really easy and you will have nice views. At the first hill you will... More

Intermediate stop if going up Pao de Acucar (Sogarloaf Mountain) by cable car; alternatively, you can hike up the available trail. Wonderful views of Rio from here with plenty of photo opportunities. Great place for a stop before going further up to the top!

The first stop when we take the cable car to Sugar loaf, good views of the city and beaches around. If you don´t want to take the cable car there´s a trail ( about 45 minutes walking ) to go to Urca hill, but to go on till the Sugar loaf from there only by cable car.

The cable car ride to the top was quick, about 2 minutes tops and if you don't look down you wouldn't know you were on a cable car. The view is worth it

You can take the cable car or do a small trecking that is quite easy, even kids do it! If you do the later you have to pay to go down using the cable car or just go down by your foot again. Must visit in Rio.

Morro da Urca is one of the most special places in Rio de Janeiro, not only because of the view, but because of the vibe. Pretty often there are concerts, special projects, parties, and other events that you should attend to before going -- look at their website. The best day to go is when it is not so crowded.... I met one of my best friends visiting it. It's an amazing view wherever you look. Just the pleasure to look at the see and take insane pictures was worth it.

A must on your visit to the Sugar Loaf....the lowest of the loafs! May be climbed but the the scenery on the aerial tramway is super worth the ride!

when you come to Rio you must come here. you will see the whole town from above. it is amazing here. try to come in the late morning so the clouds clear a bit from the mountain and you get optimum views.

Neighbourhood Profile
Downtown Rio is the place where this city was born. With modern skyscrapers sharing space with historical buildings and landmarks, this neighbourhood is living proof that the old and the new can live together harmoniously. As you would expect, downtown is where all major companies house their offices. However, the region isn’t restricted to businesses. Gems such like the “Paço Imperial,” which is a cultural centre that used to serve as a residence for governors of Brazil, can be found here. Pedra do Sal, a Monday night street party, is also in this neighbourhood. This landmark is the birthplace of samba and is famous for its “roda de sambas” (“dance circles”). Stop in for one and get closer to discovering where Brazilian happiness comes from.
